Bike surprise?

Received an invite to Mayor Menino's press conference tomorrow, which will cover "Commonwealth Avenue Bike Lanes, Rack installations ... and one item yet to be announced."

A surprise for Boston's biking community! What do you think/hope it is? Selfishly, I'd like the city to extend the Mass. Ave. bridge bike lane another block to Beacon Street.

Press conference tomorrow at 11:00 in the courtyard of the BU School of Communications, 640 Commonwealth Ave. Bring your bike and your helmet.

The Deutsche Bahn has had its call a bike program for at least four years. I've never used it, but judging from how many of the distinctive red bikes in DB livery I've seen in German cities, it seems to be quite successful.

Bike sharing is in the

Bike sharing is in the works. 3 or 4 companies are competing for the contract.

The surprise is probably that they plan on removing all bikes locked to fences, benches and trees again because their new bike racks arent enough.

Bike Share RFI, Bike Lanes, and Bike Racks

Here's the press release from the Mayor's Office:

Today, [Mayor Menino] proudly announced bike lanes have been put down on Commonwealth Avenue in Allston and American Legion Highway in Roslindale, with more planned, and that 250 bike racks have begun to be placed across the city, per resident recommendations. He also announced that the City has released a request for information (RFI) for bike sharing, where one can rent a bike and tour the City using multiple pick up and drop off locations.
