Fog rolls over downtown. Photo by Cheri.
It looks like smoke, and some people are reporting smelling smoke, but, no, that's fog that suddenly enveloped downtown around 2:30 p.m. Mike Zwirko explains:
It's convection fog, rare, but cool phenomenon. Easterly winds bring it on. Can delay landings at Logan.
What it looked like from Chelsea.
Anastasia Lyons reports:
This fog coming off the harbor is like nothing I've ever seen - view out my window is BLANK.

I don't think Carl Sandburg ever owned a cat. Or at least he'd never heard one running full tilt up an uncarpeted hallway because it's time for dinner.

I think it already is, considering how many inbound flights are circling over north-central Massachusetts at time time of this posting.
It's also called "sea smoke."

This is the kind of fog that's routine in San Francisco. Always an impressive sight.
