Ice-cream detective was in his element
By adamg on Thu, 06/04/2015 - 8:39am
Photographynatalia surveyed the Scooper Bowl at City Hall Plaza yesterday, found this dapper guy in a trench coat seeking clues to the best ice cream.

I picture every one of these types as red pill MRA kinds. Probably bad of me to prejudge...
hats
One of the dumbest cultural things on the Internet in recent years is the idea that hats are for unattractive nerds.
Some of these hats look damn good, and a person should be able to wear one without all the prejudicial baggage and rude comments.
People who go around wearing caps advertising very commercial brands, on the other hand, that's much more deserving of ridicule, of you're going to start making fun of people's hats.
Why did the hipster burn his mouth on a pizza?
He ate it before it was cool.
While
While I might agree with you re: hipsters, re-reviewing the photo reminds me that we had guys who dressed like that in college back in late 80's early 90's. Pre-hipster era. They were the nerd-boys who didn't care what people thought of their sartorial choices. Well, they did, but only amongst their peer group.
Oh funny
Original, too.
That's not hipster anyway - that's a high school student cosplay.
Wait a minute here
Isn't that Charile?
hmm
I wonder who was feeding his tarantula and/or pet snake while he was at the Scooper Bowl.
/triumph
this looks like a nice young kid
Why such hostility (by some) here?
There are those who go out
There are those who go out and do things for a good cause and there are those who do nothing but criticize anonymously from home like little cowards.
What a bunch of wankers
Fedoras and trilbies are always sexy men's headwear. A trench coat conveys urbanity. The fellow appears to be checking his pocket watch. He's even wearing a tie. And that mustache!
This fellow puts most Bostonian males to shame where the choice of wear is concerned. He's sharp, precise and damn sexy.
On top of plenty of deserved sartorial accolades he also is smiling! As in approachable, likable and pleasant. Between his style and smile I'd marry him.
girl...
he looks like he's 16. he's probably a very nice boy, but maybe calm down with the "damn sexy" for a few years.
I'd guess...
... early 20s.
could be
seems feasible, given that someone below saw him at MassArt. shows what I know!
I saw this guy at a Mass Art
I saw this guy at a Mass Art kids art show. I thought he looked like a young Vonnegut. I would not call him a hipster at all, he's not trying to hide his effort, he's proud of the look. I used to know a guy who had a similar look so I'm biased, but he was a very literary guy who made life more interesting.
Three bonus points on that fedora:
1) it appears to be a proper fur-felt hat, probably vintage, not some $15 piece of Chinese junk from Target or H&M; 2) it fits him perfectly, likely because it's sized the old-fashioned way (do you know your hat size?), not S-M-L-XL; 3) he's wearing it like a grownup, not tipped back on his head like some dopey teen.
If you're going to wear a fedora in the post-hipsters-affecting-fedoras era, that's the way to do it.
Smart look
Nothing wrong with this look. I was going to say his face seems too young for it, that it's more of an older man's look, but given that ridiculous baggy shorts and baseball cap look (or worse, baggy shorts and wool cap look) that many men affect well into their 30s now, I think I'll go with this.
makes me want to order office supplies...
WB Mason guy, anyone?
Know him, taught him, love
Know him, taught him, love him. Legend.
Also know him, taught him,
Also know him, taught him, and can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that this young man is more self-aware and comfortable with himself than most almost anybody else I've ever met. I'm proud to see so many good people complimenting him for his confidence and willingness to be himself.
The last time I attended the Scooperbowl
I was about the age of the person in the photo.
He / she is darling and this is a really sweet picture of them.
To set the facts straight
As this guy's sister I can assure you that yes the hat is vintage. It was a gift from a family friend after her father passed away. Also he is very much a feminist and is trying his best to associate fedoras with something more pleasant than "men's rights." He is also 21 not 16 so it's probably fine for people to call him sexy.
To anybody calling my dear
To anybody calling my dear cousin a MRA he is a fantastic feminist like myself. Don't judge a book by its cover!
Ice cream detective
My nephew is an awesome, sweet and kind soul.
Any sensible person...
... could tell that by simply looking at the photo. ;-)
