Hail the size of golf balls?

Our own Mass. Emergency Management Agency warns we might need to get out the clubs to defend our homes from golf-ball-sized hail tomorrow afternoon - well, rush to a secure place away from windows. Granted, eastern Mass. has only a "low" risk of jumbo hail (as opposed to the "enhanced" risk west of 495), but the assessment also includes "a risk of isolated tornadoes," so keep your eyes on the skies tomorrow.

If you want to feel jitterier, there's always the ALL-CAPS rendition by the National Weather Service:

THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING...BUT WILL DEPEND ON HOW MUCH SUNSHINE DEVELOPS AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT. IF ENOUGH SUNSHINE OCCURS... SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WIND GUSTS AND LARGE HAIL. ISOLATED WIND GUSTS OF 70+ MPH OR EVEN HAIL UP TO THE SIZE OF GOLFBALLS WOULD BE A POSSIBILITY. IN ADDITION...AN ISOLATED TORNADO OR TWO MAY OCCUR.

Anyone writing more than a brief sentence in all caps SHOULD BE BANNED from writing anything else. Weather service is bad. Lawyers are worse.

Even their forecast for a perfect day at the beach is written in all caps. I think it has something to do with their equipment.

A RELATIVE OF MINE WORKS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING, AND SHE'S ALWAYS SENDING ME EMAILS / MESSAGES IN ALL CAPS. SHE SAID THAT THAT'S JUST WHAT THEY DO, AND THAT SHE WAS SORRY FOR THE NEGATIVE IMAGE IT MIGHT GIVE HER.

I SENT HER A LINK TO HOMESTARRUNNER DOT COM AND TOLD HER THAT, IF THERE WASN'T FAMILY BUSINESS INVOLVED, I LIKED TO READ THE MAILS OUT IN THE STRONG BAD VOICE. SHE GOT A KICK OUT OF THAT.

PERHAPS THE NWS REPORTS WOULD SEEM LESS THREATENING IF WE ALL WERE TO READ THEM AS SUCH. WILL GIVE IT A TRY.

I remember the day the tornado hit Springfield, being in Brighton and seeing mammatus clouds. I didn't know what they were but I knew it was time to get inside and stop sightseeing.
