I'm not comparing white supremacy to Islam as a whole.
See that word "extremism" in my original comment? I'm comparing a white supremacist mass murderer to a radicalized Islamist mass murderer.
As much as I'm sure you'd love to get a boner by getting to rail against another apparent Islamophobic Herald reader (or whatever other snappy insult that generates the most up-votes on UH these days), you're going to have to look elsewhere.
Tell me, do you somehow find murder on behalf of what one may perceive as their "supreme religion" more acceptable or less severe than murder on behalf of what one may perceive as their "supreme race"?
Because being a Muslim is a perfectly fine thing if you're not murdering people, but being a white supremacist is not no matter how few murders you're actually committing?
Because being a Muslim is a perfectly fine thing if you're not murdering people, but being a white supremacist is not no matter how few murders you're actually committing?
Your comment, though true, is crafted in a way to deliberately mislead and distort facts.
I can flip it around and it's still a true statement no sane person could disagree with: "a white person is a perfectly fine thing if you're not murdering people, but being an Islamic extremist is not no matter how few murders you're actually committing."
See how I did that?
What it should say: "being a Muslim or a white person is a perfectly fine thing if you're not murdering people, but being a white supremacist or an Islamic extremist is not not matter how few murders you're actually committing."
I'm not sure if you knew this, so read slowly, but not all white people are white supremacists...and likewise not all Muslims are extremists. Shhhh! It's a secret though :-)

Says the man who earlier this month used UHub to bash a ceremony remembering City of Boston paramedics and EMTs. Thus, it was even more refreshing to hear the Judge today praise our brave first responders. Even Tsarnaev himself praised the courage of the witnesses, at least two of whom were Boston paramedics who presented gut-wrenching testimony.
Mr. Costello, keep up the criticism of Boston EMS memorial services and I'll keep up the criticism of radical Islam. As for your crayon comment, is this what Boston Latin is graduating now?
just can't wrap himself around the fact that this country commits Marathon bombings daily. Only those bombings are done from thousands of miles away by guys sipping Starbucks.
I don't know what Hindu means but nevertheless there are pricks in every religion using it to justify their violence based on their divinity leanings.
That's why you get the response to your tired trope on Islam means peace.
This tool is going to die. I'd invoke the musings of Gladys Knight and The Pips if I knew I was nuts and had a forum. Keep staying angry Fish. It is fun to poke the bear.
...means "God" -- the very same "God" that Christian and Jews worship. All the same, Christians have killed also Muslims, Jews and other Christians in the name of God. Doesn't mean God approves of any of this. And doesn't mean that killers can't subsequently understand that God (or Allah) didn't, in fact, approve.
Isn't as generic as you've lead it to be. A particular religion used the term to refer to the God which they worship and an extrem faction of said religion invokes his name when murdering people.
Hence the reason people are upset a convicted terrorist used his only opportunity to address victims to further invoke his name.
Muslims invoke Allah when doing good and when doing evil (wrongly believing it good). Christians invoke God in just the same manner(s). His invocation of Allah, as part of his apology was totally appropriate (no way of judging sincerity). Or would you have preferrd him to "find Jesus" perhaps?
He attacked our city and killed and maimed us in the name of Allah. It may hurt your sensitivities to actually hear that said clearly and out loud, but that is what happened. His "confession" in the boat underlined that and endorsed the result.
To pepper a 3000 word "apology" with a dozen and a half references to Allah, after what he did to us in the name of Allah, is just heaping on the insult. To pretend that it's anything else, as you'd like to do have us do, is PC non-sense of the highest order.
I think the that he was trying to say that God and Allah (and Yahweh) are equivalent. This person murdered in the name of Allah just as many others have murdered in the name of God. It's the same thing. The biggest difference is that we, as a society, choose to criticize Islam and brush under the rug and distance ourselves from people like these because we want to say that they are not part of our group, even though for all intents and purposes they are.
This Arabic name for the God of Abraham predates Islam. Christians today in Arabic speaking countries refer to and pray to their god as Allah. Catholic masses in Syria refer to Allah. Copts in Egypt pray to Allah. Protestants in Palestine pray to Allah. In Malta, which is almost completely Catholic, they pray to Alla. It's just another name for the same god that all Abrahamic religions worship.
Lets work on white people religions and bowl head's sacred mission to incite a race war, while we're at it.
We have to assume these figment sky gods are not to blame for the lethal crackpot antics of those who cling to them. The nice thing about being a Zen Animist is knowing you have no one to blame but yourself.
Have him give up his right to appeal in exchange for life imprisonment without possibility of parole, don't talk about him, don't martyr him, don't give him a soapbox, have history regard him as pathetic.
I thought it was a surprisingly good statement, an acknowledgment of his culpability and the damage he's caused. Yes, it was couched in his religious beliefs. So what? All the media did throughout the trial was harp on his lack of remorse. Now, he speaks it and it's "too little too late". Obviously, nothing erases the horror and the pain but I'm glad he made the statement. It was a start.

I'm sure the survivors appreciate that.

Please.
Picture Dylan Roof apologizing to the victims and their families, but peppering in praise of white people while doing it.
Even though not all white people are racist mass murders (and not all Muslims are poisoned by extremism), I'm sure some people might be put off by it.
Get it now?
Well
You just equated Islam with white supremacy. Clearly, you are an intellectual force to be reckoned with.
Tell me
I'm not comparing white supremacy to Islam as a whole.

Boy, thinking is super hard.
Stop trying.
Clearly, so let me help you out.

Too hard for you, certainly
Well, it is certainly difficult for you, as evidenced by the extremely difficult time you seem to be having with basic logical constructions here.
Perhaps you should take geometry at a community college and get yourself sorted out?

Of course Fish, in his mind
just can't wrap himself around the fact that this country commits Marathon bombings daily. Only those bombings are done from thousands of miles away by guys sipping Starbucks.
The little bastard
murdered our people and maimed hundreds. He will pay the ultimate penalty.
Inshallah.
"Only those bombings are done from thousands of miles away by guys sipping Starbucks."
You know nothing.
Gee....
Where do you see me exonerating Tsarnaev for his crimes?
Why condemn him for his murders and not our government for theirs?
Annointed
That's what Christos means in Greek.

How many times did he mention Allah?
I think I counted four. A final fuck you to all of us, Muslims included.
[Edit: It was sixteen times.]
Ugh. Rot somewhere far, far away in a very dark hole.
Why was invoking Allah...
... a "F*** You" to anyone?
allah invoking
because he killed 5 people in the name of allah?

Gee, Mox...
So when a Catholic priest tells a little boy that he's only touching him because it's God's will.....?
Please site an example
Of say a beheading with the executioner yelling "May God be with you"
Not to mention...

Allah is not "God's name"
It's the Arabic term which translates as "the god" - i.e., that Islam would be monotheistic, unlike the Arab pagans of yesteryear.
Allah was his friend, not his fault.

How are you not getting this?
It's crystal clear: OOGA BOOGA THEM MUSLIMS IS COMIN TO GET YOU
Who cares? Killed or injured
Who cares? Killed or injured in the name of any make believe fairytale, whether it be Santa or the tooth fairy is an insult.
Are you really going to give
Are you really going to give a deep reading to the theological underpinnings of a 19 year old's speech after his sentencing?
the death penalty here is dumb
Have him give up his right to appeal in exchange for life imprisonment without possibility of parole, don't talk about him, don't martyr him, don't give him a soapbox, have history regard him as pathetic.
Sirhan Sirhan
How many know who he is? How many would have to look it up?
I know!
RFK's killer / one of a very few American assassins without a three-word name (Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth, James Earl Ray...)
Sirhan Bishara Sirhan
I did that without the incredible google. I just remembered it.
Lemme see...
Off the top of my head...ten round .22 cal revolver, eight hit the target, wood door frames from the shooting area went missing in like 1969.
Bunch of new gun laws passed that totally fixed the gun problem.
I would not want to meet Rosie Grier under negative circumstances.

Protesting American murders of Arab women and children
By murdering American women and children. And now his body will be added to the pile. I doubt God approves of any of it.
Revenge....

THis Clown
Oh my gosh- so sad. I hope he gets the death penalty! Or maybe not. Not like anyone gives a turd.
