Would someone *really* try that turn if the sign weren't there?

We're talking about a 170-degree turn that would point you against 55+mph one-way traffic if you managed to execute it.

"well, duh?" sign, mainly because of the location (elevated ramps with a gap between them). And, while 'No Turns" signs are common on freeway entrance ramps, they're normally placed at the point that the entrance ramp merges with the highway, not well in advance of the actual merge. It's also a sign that the standards do not mandate installation of, and will allow to be omitted if it is not practical to install the sign at the proper location.
