Simon is renaming the Mall at Chestnut Hill as the Shops at Chestnut Hill as part of an overall revamp that also includes making the exterior look more like the assemblage of objets d'acquisition it really is, rather than a Soviet-style concrete bunker, the Globe reports.

People will stop calling this "The Chestnut Hill Mall" about the same time they stop referring to the VFW Parkway as "Route 1".
Just to suggest a tweak to your lede
The Natick Mall is not owned by Simon Property Group. General Growth Properties has owned and managed the Natick Mall since 1995, when they acquired Homart Development Company.

general growth went too far
When they built condos on top of the mall.....Simon isn't making that same mistake. And General Growth went through bankruptcy I believe while Simon is flush with cash.

Has anyone thought about the cause and effect to The Chestnut Hill Mall (oh come on, it's a mall ... let's just call it what it is) if and when Bloomingdale's opens in the new expansion of the Pru?

(I know it's related to Legal's, but it does mention Bloomie's moving to the new Pru)
I love a fun shopping trip to Bloomingdale's every now and then and would be less likely to leave the city to drive to Chestnut Hill if Bloomie's does, in fact, open at the Pru.

just Chestnut Hill Mall, which is what 99.5% of people call it?
BTW: That lil' shopping thing at Putterham Circle (which many pass by while going to the Shops at Chestnut Hill) is called The Shops at Putterham. How 'bout just calling it that little shopping plaza at Putterham Circle?

I had really hoped this style of naming had ended but yesterday I saw the Residences at the Armory in Plymouth, and now today the Shops at Chestnut Hill. Sigh.

I'd say they're named that way because of phone book alphabetical placement (like AAAAAAAAA1111111111 House of Pizza and Auto Repair but who uses a phone book anymore?
I was just at that mall for
I was just at that mall for the first time this past weekend. It seems nice and airy and due to the holiday weekend there was to be very little foot traffic so you could do some browsing and shopping while not tripping over people. The stores themselves seem to have some variety for everyone although I'm not sure I go for the Bloomingdale's as the only anchor store. The Mexican restaurant is way overpriced but the service was quite nice.

A real marketing boost for that place would be a coffee shop.
