Boston 2024 tries leafletting drive to boost those all important poll numbers

Boston 2024 leaflet

Steve reports finding a two-page leaflet on his front steps in South Boston yesterday from Boston 2024, extolling its new "fact-based plan for hosting the games" that will, of course, fix the T, create thousands of new jobs and housing units, lead to better bike lanes and mean more taxes for the city.

Signed Boston 2024 leaflet

Jonathan Kamens reports he got a copy of the leaflet at his Brighton home, as well - the Brighton home, he notes, with the "No Soliciting" sign that specifically refers to no political leaflets.

That's sure to raise those poll numbers.

That was a PR masterstroke. Leafletting (passive aggressive littering) isn't nearly as effective as having some out of towner lecture us provincials about what's best for us. And he's been to SIX OLYMPICS by the way!

How can anybody produce a bid with so many "TBD's" and feel good about it! All the financials are at best just guesses. All are low ball estimates. After Boston signs the blank check guarantee then the real costs suddenly appear and the insurance doesn't cover it. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Boston2024.

How many other cities had a more developed plan this early in the process? Do the other international cities have more of a plan currently?

I know how much fun it is to bash Boston 2024 (I hate them too) but it seems unsurprising, perhaps even expected, that so many details would be left out of the plan given that Boston isn't even a finalist city yet.

It would be interesting to see what London or Rio was like ~8 years before the games. In the case of Rio I'd be curious if any public information was released at all this early on.

And I suspect your implication, that other cities didn't know much at this early stage, may be right. I it's good that the people of Boston have managed to push for this much.

We have experienced huge problems with large projects and have seen what happens with Olympics in other cities. Before this comes to our town we want to know what the possible effects are. I would love to be able to support a Boston Olympics but based on what I know about past Olympics, the IOC and the on going problems Boston 2024 has been having I am concerned.

No one should be expected to endorse or support something with this potential without solid numbers to explain why it is good for Boston.

Good for us for pushing on this.

I didn't feel the earthquake that all of a sudden brought Weston and Oyster Harbors into close quarters with M Street Beach and The Green Briar.

Didn't realize Doug Bennett was working for them. Were they glued to everyone's doors?

Amazing how poorly composed the leaflet is.

First, long, very long header. Already not a smart move.

Second, the body reads like some speech that no one has time to listen to.

Third, it is small print and lots of text.
I mean, lots of text, lots of stuff to read and lots of stuff to, ya know, ...... read!

Lastly, I really don't know what point they're making to South Boston. They really should have gotten Mr. Linehan to do the work for them by going door to door asking for support while apologizing for working against the will of the City Council last week. Linehan might have made a case for Boston 2024 while at the same time claiming to represent them and NOT Boston 2024.

I do like the circa-1965 typography, though.

A lot of these leaflets are being dropped by city employees. They're not exactly hiding it on twitter under the #Boston2024 hashtag.

Because the only two choices are "have no Olympics and then the T never gets fixed" or "have 30 sports take place over 16 days and make this whole place a fustercluck." There are no smaller events that we could host for which people will pay admission from which we can generate revenue to fix the trains.

Serious question: Why would any Bostonian believe that other Bostonians are stupid? Does John Fish never go outside or something?

Knowing full well they're lost the broader support of the meat and potatoes crowd, now they turn to this latest piece of bullshit. Why don't they just hire a Kardashian or two next?

Even sicker is that this is a city that has prided itself for centuries as being a haven of academic excellence, with over 100 colleges and universities, yet these crooked motherfuckers think we're all stupid.

...but Howie nailed it yesterday.

"Boston 2024 don’t need no stinkin’ referendum — that is the clear message of the one-percenters and vulture capitalists who are plotting the heist of the century.

We own the judiciary, they brazenly brag in their own documents. We own the Legislature. Bleep the voters.

“If an initiative petition were to prevail,” the shameless hustlers wrote on page 9 of their scheme last December, “opponents to the petition could seek to have the legislature amend or repeal the petition’s decree through new legislation.”

New legislation? What would they call it — “An Act to Subvert the Will of 2 Million Voters in order to Further Feather the Nests of Parties Known and Unknown to the Grand Jury”?"

that it's probably the only thing I've ever agreed with Carr on. I guess because like a broken clock, the racist, xenophobic, supporter of domestic terrorists that is Howie Carr can be right at least once in his miserable life.

I assume this means "don't knock or ring our doorbell", not "don't drop a leaflet here".

Boston 2024 had two good chances to improve their standing over the past few weeks: Bid 2.0 and the Globe/Fox25 TV debate. Neither of these seems to have worked.

You're giving me a deadline, you arrogant pricks? You think the deadline for your party impresses me?

I'm the MBTA, punk. I've been shitting on people for decades. The bones of Charlie still ride beneath the streets of Boston and that was for a fucking nickel. If I didn't let that guy slide for fifty cents in today's money you think I'm gonna spend hundreds of millions just so you don't look like schmucks? Think again.

You don't get it, dumbasses. I'm the T. I don't spend money. I take money. If I don't care about the people who actually live and pay taxes here year 'round, what makes you think I care about impressing a bunch of low-rent royalty from the Dutchy of Whogivesafuck? It's not like they're gonna be fighting to sit between Sob Story Guy and Penelope. They're gonna be riding in the sunlight in the first-up-against-the-wall-when-the-revolution-comes lane.

All those "signal problems" and "snow delays" this last winter? That was just me cracking my knuckles, warming up. You ain't seen nothing yet. What's that look of surprise on your face? Oh, right. That's the look of you suddenly realizing that you're the one with a deadline, not me. I can take my sweet fucking time. Who knows, maybe I'll be underwater in 30 years and I won't bother to spend any money on improvements at all. It's all the same to me. I'll still be here whether or not your party happens. You want me to be improved so much, you can pay for it. That's right, you little Fish stooges, open up that wallet and start thumbing out the bills.

And tell your pal, Danny Doctoroff, he can suck my soot-encrusted, 118-year-old cawk. To quote him, "you'll get used to it."

if Boston got the 2024 Olympics. "You want things running well? Well, we are going to need a lot more people, benefits, and wages for that."

Yeah, they really studied the demographics there and saw how that would give them big numbers!

I'd rather Olympic officials get existing bike lanes dedicated to them instead of driving lanes AND add more driving lanes around the city, then I'd view their bid more favorably.

We got one in Readville... It was stuck in the door handle right under the "No Boston Olympics" sign.
