Deflating footballs is a far greater sin to the NFL than beating women and children. The NFL leadership is a disgrace.

that apparently had NO EFFECT on the outcome of the game (as demonstrated by the second half), whereas the other involves violating a person's basic rights to be able to breath and walk without getting beat up.
But of course, Goddell considers the violation of the nitpicking rule far more important than the fact a person got slapped around by one of the NFL's "finest".
And, I said this the first day this manufactured "scandal" emerged in the media - If they honestly and truly believed that an underinflated football so dramatically affected the outcome of the game, then the solution should have been to just REPLAY the game.

... if he wants to keep his job. There is intense resistance to giving the Pats a "break" on the part of some of the other most powerful team owners. Handing out an over-the-top punishment squares him with these other owners -- and if a court wants to throw the punishment out as excessive, at least the heat is off him.

Because in Watergate the worst part was the cover-up. Here Brady is being convicted for scrubbing his phone.

It's lazy and idiotic. Then again, the time and attention that has been wasted focusing on - OMG- an UNDERINFLATED FOOTBALL is pretty stupid as well.

Brady didn't destroy his phone.
He gave it to Russell Wilson after the Super Bowl. Instead of handing it off to the league, Russell threw it away.

what's missing from the posted comments are these simple facts: Brady cheated; Brady lied about it; Brady destroyed evidence to cover it up. the four game suspension is nothing compared to the fact that his reputation is tarnished forever (no different than Barry Bonds)

I destroy the phone - knowing it will piss off Goodell. Then I let the PA sue for me - in which case the messages can probably be subpoenaed (they exist on some server somewhere - if not Brady's new phone as well). When the messages come back with nothing - the league and Goodell look like idiots. Perfect revenge - much ado about nothing and makes Goodell look like an idiot.

Some people get a new cell
By john smith

Some people get a new cell phone every six months or so, and it's good practice to destroy an old cell phone when you get a new one, unless you are sure you can erase everything. It's just like a laptop: unless you are sure you can remove all the old data, you are better off destroying the old hard drive. Some companies require the old hard drive be destroyed when you replace a computer.
The timing for the destruction of the old phone was bad, but I can believe that he routinely gets a new cell phone and destroys the old one. Some one with his income would be foolish to try to save an old cell phone.
