![Damage at the Ohrenburger School playground in West Roxbury](https://universalhub.com/files/styles/main_image_-_bigger/public/images/2015/ohr2.jpg)
The roof on the left used to look like the roof on the right.
Somebody set fire to the main playground set at the Ohrenberger School playground this weekend. Firefighters apparently got there in time to keep the entire area from catching on fire - the playground is lined with wood chips.
One slide and a roof were pretty much completely destroyed; some supports and steps were charred and wood chips directly under the fire burned as well:

Police tape was strung on other stairs into the equipment to keep kids out.
H/t outraged neighbor who took the bottom photo.

This was probably done by a kid too old to enjoy the playground, but too young to fully realize that playing with fire by burning other people's stuff is a very stupid idea.
Could be a "griefer"

It could also have been an adult or teen flinging a lit cigarette, in accordance with the local custom of lit cigarette disposal.
Not that that has ever caused a fire in dry wood chips.

What kind of a-hole does something like to a kids playground? Unreal.

Fire starting, arson. Just saying.

Someone carelessly flicking a burning butt into a pile of combustibles seems just as likely as arson, if not more so.

Stores that use wood-chip mulch on their parking-lot islands see the stuff catch fire from cigarettes all the time.
Why is someone smoking at a playground?
