Well, the dude on the right

Well, the dude on the right is Washington Allston, for whom the town is named. (Allston is the only place in the US named for a painter, y'know.) The cutlery and plate are because Brighton Ave in Allston is the city's hot restaurant row at the moment. And the rocking chair: well, duh, the nickname is Allston ROCK City, geddit?

Allston Main Streets has funded several murals in the past couple of years. There's another panel to the left of the one with the cutlery and all, with the artist credits. It was designed by a group of kids at a middle school.
As Stewart says, the dude is Washington Allston. Apparently the other items (there are several other panels) are kind of randomly selected and were intended to be in the style of Andy Warhol.
I contemplate it every morning as I'm headed to work, since it's directly across from my bus stop. It's certainly a big improvement over the boarded-up windows of the long defunct bargain shoe outlet that previously occupied that space.

The cutlery appears in the shape of a Chi Rho Cross. As one who studies symbolism I seriously doubt that is a coincidence.

You know now that I'm looking at that FedEx thing I think it might be sexual in nature. The male pointing at the female, if you see what I mean. The other thing the arrow may symbolize is the mushroom (most symbols have multiple meanings). The mushroom is very significant.

The cutlery could very well be in the shape of a Chi Rho cross. But it could also represent the feared 'crossed cutlery'. Like Iron Chef or something, only without chopsticks. The bowl in the background could be full of peas, symbolizing, um, whirled peas. The rocking chair to the right is empty. There is no one in the rocker. So someone, somewhere is off their rocker.
