I-93 shut at Southampton Street for 15 minutes as firefighters rushed to put out the fire in the ammo-filled camper on the northbound side.
Meanwhile, further north, part of the Leverett Connector is cracked. No cause for alarm, turnpike authority says, banning trucks weighing more than 40 tons just to be safe.

Longwood and the Fens were completely jammed up- I'd never seen that much traffic. Then I got to Mass Ave- also packed. The MIT bridge? Likewise. I had assumed it was something to do with students being back...

Must have been that "police investigation" or "police activity" that the rolling signs alluded to.

Afternoon game at Fenway

An afternoon game at Fenway combined with normal business-day traffic invariably turns the area roads into a snarly, stand-still mess. Storrow Drive gets jammed both ways, the whole length of Mass Ave goes into gridlock, the Oliver R. Smoot Memorial Bridge backs up... Then the game lets out right at rush hour, and it happens all over again. That, and of course the students are back, a truck exploded, and a butterfly flapped its wings.

since this is a Wednesday evening. But I didn't notice any special traffic problems while riding from the North End to the Shell around 6:30 pm.
As for the Leverett Connector ... wasn't that just built, within the last ten years?

So the guy was moving a load of ammo, and "it went off." Task-planning-wise, you'd think preventing that from happening under most any circumstance would come before the part where you put it in a truck and drive it around.
