New ped bridge a substantial improvement

The new ped bridge:
* will comply with ADA (not too steep)
* will be 14 feet wide (the current bridge is about 7 feet)
* will not have the sharp switchbacks the current ped bridge has.
It's a good improvement. Sorry for the tree loss -- maybe plant some new ones in the median?

Foundations for the pedestrian bridge should start in the next month or so.
The old bridge will stay in place until the new is completed, so there's always access. (There's a short time without access when the old, which will be right next to the new, is removed, but it's limited.)
There's also going to be a rather nice landing area near the Boston abutment tower. The whole area is going to look pretty spiffy and should hopefully offer better access.

Says in link below it will start next year and completion is 2017. You would think it would have fewer schedule setbacks than the Longfellow.

You only have to look at the backup during the 2013 Red Sox parade to see the reason for doubling the width of the bridge. I don't recall, but I got to believe it is even worse after the 4th of July fireworks.

Aw man, I'm totally bummed that there won't be an easier way from the Esplanade to the bridge like there was before. There used to be a cutover to the bridge from the overpass. It wasn't necessary to go all the way across the bridge to Charles Circle before going back to the Esplanade :(

I didn't read this too carefully, but there is mention on page 80 (page 92 in my PDF viewer) of this report.
Listed as priority 1. I didn't see a listing for projected cost.

EDIT: There is $3.6 million in the New Charles River Basin Trust Fund for the bridge, but I don't see what stops them from going forward.

I hate to see healthy trees cut down. It takes so long to grow a canopy like that! The Forest Hills area looks like a barren wasteland since about 200 trees were eliminated as part of the Casey Overpass project.

Storrow is going to be consolidated and lowered under a single arch of the Longfellow. Why are we cutting down trees for a pedestrian bridge that will soon be too long and too high? Wait to reconstruct the bridge after the storrow realignment. Place the landing closer to the old alignment for storrow outbound and save many trees in the process.
