Compare the foods markets of the North End with the foods markets around the main drag, Mount Auburn Street in Watertown ! For example, are spices available in North End also available in Watertown at lower prices?

You can probably find sumac at Arax Market, on Mount Auburn Street, Watertown.

a) For what foods is the sumac used?... what kinds of preparations?

b) How is sumac best stored at home?...

I like to sprinkle a hefty dose on Basmati Rice, especially if served with lamb. Gives a nice tart spike to it.

Hasten to add, in case anyone is wondering - NO, it is not the same plant as poison sumac.

You don't get the authentic feel of Venice in Watertown.

Was the gondola out on the esplanade/river this past summer? Not the same as the canals, though.

On the bright side, today they can skip the street sweeping.

keep the streets flooded. it will cut down on vehicular traffic, wash away all the urine, and turn the north end into boston's venice.

Rising sea levels will make it a permanent feature in due time.

We'd all better watch out in 300-500 years.

We are already looking at 5 feet of just sea level rise by 2050 (what is being used for planning purposes).

That's without storm surge.

There is very little of Boston that will not lose at least some land in the next 30-50 years.
