Because they might really be three dudes who will smack you in the head with an aluminum baseball bat and steal your phone and your marijuana, InsideMedford.com reports, adding police suspect the three used meetme.com in at least two other robberies.

Sad isn't it?

It's sad that you would even NEED to tell people not to respond to a stranger inviting you to come and smoke at 2am. You'd think common sense would make that unnecessary.
Penis

Because many guys (not all, folks) too often think with their penis. When the penis is in charge of your brain, all common sense goes out the window. And I'm pretty sure that guy thought they were gonna get more than just some free smoke.
Edit: fixed my english to reflect a single person

w4m personals ads on craigslist...

...became useless years ago, due to almost all of them being obviously fake. However, there used to be a certain type of post that purported to be a woman looking to "party" with a man who could supply the "party favors". I could see how a man could fall for that. Especially if said man had already started in on the party favors.
Besides, this is some real blaming the victim. Some person who was just responding to an ad to consensually hang out, got set upon by three thugs and had his head bashed with a baseball bat. Is it really appropriate to blame the person for that?
of course not

It's never appropriate to blame the victim. It's interesting, though, that this man didn't think it was a trap. As a female who's responded to some ads online, I've made sure that the first meeting takes place in public, usually during daylight hours. If I'd been attacked after agreeing to meet someone in an isolated location, obviously all the blame would belong to my attacker; but I know I'd be kicking myself for not being savvier about meeting a stranger from the internet.

As it were ...
Maybe I'm the only parent to go through these ads with teens and point out what the traps look like? I hope not. This is Basic Awareness 101 sort of stuff, and parents should be schooling their younguns about it.
Then again, that means admitting that your kid might be stoned and horny beyond good sense someday.

Why, exactly, do they call it "dope"?

You asked a question (really just repeated a joke that was old and lame in the 80s), and then snarked when you got corrected for sounding like Nancy Reagan. /eye roll/
Nancy Reagan?

Funny that every single pot-smoker I knew in the 80s called it "dope", then, isn't it? Funny that the college I went to had a "Nancy Reagan Smoke Dope on the Quads Day" in the mid-80s, and nobody showed up with smack. How old are you, anyway?

Heroin is not dope, it kills thousands of people every year.

It relates to opium preparation:
And according to Urban Dictionary: people who don't do drugs call marijuana "dope." People who smoke marijuana call heroin "dope." Urban Dictionary isn't the most authoritative word on the subject, but it sort of makes sense.

I've known dozens of people in my lifetime who smoke marijuana and call it "dope", so that's at least as reliable as Urban Dictionary.
I would also enter into evidence the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, who are far, far more reliable than Urban Dictionary.

My circle of friends always called it dope.
Spend money on a bag of sticks and seeds and you say to yourself "that's why they call it dope".
