Well, that inspires confidence: Workers digging trench for high-pressure gas pipeline in West Roxbury rupture water main

On Washington Street just north of the Dedham line. So now parts of West Roxbury don't have water. As of 5:30 p.m., BWSC crews were still on scene working to restore service. At least water wasn't geysering out of the trench onto the street.

UPDATE, 11:15 p.m. Kerry Sweeney reports the water is back, but it's brown.

About ten years ago a contractor I hired to replace a water line was warned, by looking inside the building that the gas line was much shallower than planned and about a foot and a half off from the dig safe mark. It was so close to the surface that an old fence post that was removed and embedded in concrete was almost, kinda connected to it.
Needless to say, if they just dug according to the book, well...

I've heard some interesting stories about the old Water Works line placement.

This could have been predicted back when federal Judge Young gave Spectra Energy eminent domain to our streets for its pipeline without having to go through the process of getting City of Boston permits and having inspectors from the city departments consult with Bond contractors as they dig up our neighborhood. This is the company that tells us it is safe to place their extreme pressure gas line next to the quarry where there is weekly blasting.

Let's hope they don't mess up on the welding of the pipeline.
