South Boston brothers indicted for allegedly 'tuning up' a sleeping homeless man with their fists, a metal pole and their urine
A Suffolk County grand jury yesterday indicted Scott and Steve Leader on charges of civil rights violations while causing bodily injury, assault and battery for purposes of intimidation causing bodily injury, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for an Aug. 19 incident in which they allegedly beat and urinated on a homeless man they found outside the JFK/UMass T stop on their way home from a Sox game.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:
One of them took a metal pole and struck the victim with it repeatedly. The two assailants then walked away laughing, witnesses said.
The victim was transported immediately to Boston Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken nose, serious bruising across his torso, and other injuries.
At the State Police barracks in South Boston, Scott Leader allegedly made a series of incriminating statements, including that he and his brother “tuned up” an “illegal immigrant,” and that this behavior was acceptable because the victim was homeless and Hispanic.
Just the civil-rights charge carries a potential sentence of ten years in state prison, the DA's office reports.
Innocent, etc.

Reminds me of "Mystic River"
When Adam posted this incident a few weeks with these pictures, it immediately reminded of the movie "Mystic River". Sean Penn's character had these two guys (brothers? Savage brothers??) that he called on for some muscle work. Man, just like them.
So will they do hard time or
So will they do hard time or just have to pay a small fine and suffer the consequences with a stern finger wag?
I'm gonna guess...
The second one.
Blame the Yuppies
Blame newcomers and professionals for ruining the place.
Sad thing is.. when there is
Sad thing is.. when there is a post/story on Facebook forums about New Condos, Parking or Yuppies...the same 200 townies and life long residents comment about how awful South Boston is now because of all the yuppies.
When a story like this is posted...0 comments from the townies and life long residents.
Pathetic.
Townies?
You are a yuppie, this isnt C-town you toonie!
There are townies, and there are Townies.
That local distinction is an interesting bit of trivia, in the same way that "spuckie" and "hoodsie" are quaint, vanishing bits of parochial argot. But outside of longtime residents of Charlestown and Southie, nobody gives a rat's ass about the "T" vs "t" difference. The small-t townie is a universally understood concept.
I'm always sorry to see local idiom getting stomped by bland, homogeneous usage, but that's the way of the modern world. Even Hollywood has gotten tired of local Southie color (witness the brilliant Dennis Lehane adapting his short story "Animal Rescue" into the screenplay for the equally brilliant movie "The Drop", relocating it to Brooklyn. (See it: James Gandolfini's last film, and Tom Hardy's character is unforgettable. It also features what I consider moviedom's greatest dog ever, Rocco, though I prefer the name Mike.)
Get over yerself. You had a good run.
pretty sure
That was a reference to "The Town" that flew over your head. Not to be taken seriously.
Ha! And I saw that movie. Twice!
I missed the joke. Quite a few posters have made the same point here over the years unironically.
Still waiting for the day I can fly around and escape the North End in a car that quickly.
Anyway, go watch "The Drop".
As for spuckies, try not to eye-roll too hard at
the Lower End's new Worden Hall calling their flatbread and Pullman sandwiches by that name. It's very good.
I know, right?
If that homeless guy had just taken the time to get to know his neighbors, this never would have happened.
It wasn't like this
When Whitey was around.
Yes. It was...
(assuming you are not being sarcastic).
..and much worse. The homeless guy would have been murdered.
whitey
he wouldn't have killed the guy. he would have had him dropped off in Roxbury, same place they dumped a lot of bodies during the gang wars. dead bodies were bad for business in southie.
do you really think this guy would have been murdered if whitey was still around? I hear he asked a hoemless guy not to sit on his front stairs in santa monica anymore and the guy moved. also, know he a used homlesss guy ID to establish some form of ID for himself. took care of the guy financially until the homeless guy died.
so other than the 19 murders and heroin dealing........
I also understand that Whitey was a dedicated recycler,
and sent flowers to the funerals of the many people he killed or ordered killed. Purportedly privately objected to the use of the drugs with which he flooded the neighborhood he so loved. Never cut the tag off a mattress, either. So there's that.
You've got it all wrong.
Whitey would have given the homeless guy a few bucks for his name and social security number (to set up a phoney id for a rainy day).
The last generation of SCUM left in Southie
Gentrification and public housing improvements have been slowly pushing the last of them out.
But it will still take another 20 years to finish them off.
really?
go pound sand
So you don't think these guys are scum?
I certainly do.
And anyone like them.
false equivalence
Don't go down that road.
What does that even mean?
That's the dumbest answer I have seen on here.
I wonder if you
Would say the same thing about Dot/Mat/Rox.
There is scum everywhere
The rest of Boston is not immune. If you think these two idiots are not scum I got to wonder what these two have to do before you find the label fitting?
Insulting an entire
Insulting an entire neighborhood of longtime residents makes you look really bad.
Please point out where exactly I did that.
I was referring to these two losers and others like them.
"Gentrification," which you
"Gentrification," which you seem to be advocating, pushes out all long time residents, not just the ones that you refer to.
I am not advocating anything.
I am merely pointing out a fact. Most original Southie residents were more than happy to cash out when yuppie buyers came waving checks. I lived there on H street when it started back around 1993. They all turned their tripple deckers into cash cows, selling them off to developers for condo conversion. And you know what? I don't blame them. I would have done the same. I was pushed out too when my 4 bedroom apartment that I shared with 3 others went from 1100 a month to 1600 a month then 2000 a month in the space of one year.
There are still plenty of original residents. My extended family included. Even they will be happy to see losers like these two shit heads gone. If rising rents push them out, I'm all for it and so are they. Yeah it sucks for those people who are from the area who never bought back when nobody wanted to live there, but you know what? That's life.
If you read something in my comment that was not said, thats your problem. But I stand by my comment.

Just
Makin' America great again, broh.
You People Are Pathetic
The two defectives mentioned in this story are scumbuckets. They deserve the most painful punishment allowed by law.
However, you - and I mean the majority of commenters on this thread - take this as another opportunity to bash people who live in South Boston.
Yes, these two assholes epitomize a certain breed of ignorant foul trash, but you find it just fine to tar every long-time resident of that neighborhood because of their actions.
I don't live in South Boston, but I've spent a lot of time there with good friends. The people I know from there aren't perfect, but none of us are. 99 out of 100 I know from that neighborhood are hard working good people who don't deserve the bullshit you heap on them due to your own sad prejudices and misconceptions.
When two bad actors from Dorchester or Roxbury or just about any other city or town in The Commonwealth do something despicable, I don't see anyone here jumping down the throat of the entire community from which they came. Make it Southie? Oh, then let's pile on the "townies".
Pathetic.

Why do you think this is?
Why do you think this is?
Fair Question
And I can only speculate.
I'll agree that it would look better if some did comment, saying these bums are hideous examples of humanity. But maybe they feel there are enough people who would already do that, or maybe they feel it's obvious these bums are bums so they don't need to throw in their two cents. I don't know.

"Why do you think this is?"
"Why do you think this is?"
Because all the transplants are resentful they can barely afford an awesome city which is way more interesting than whatever area they moved from, so it makes them feel better to insult the original residents.
Original residents?
The original residents probably looked more like the guy who was beat up.
You are sidestepping the the
You are sidestepping the the point.
No, I'm not
You are.
The people you are referring to are far from the "original residents" of the area, even if you don't count first peoples. Such is the natural history of cities as compared to isolated farming or fishing villages.
You are, in fact, trying to
You are, in fact, trying to skirt around the obvious issue.
You can refer to the average resident that has been living there for much of the 20th century in this situation in this situation.
"original residents"
Otherwise known as people who happened to have relatives who moved to South Boston 30/40/50 years ago. Far from "original", but for some reason, people seem to think having grandparents that lived in the same neighborhood gives you more rights than someone who had grandparents/parents who happened to grow up in Cambridge/Quincy/Weymouth/Worcester.
actually any mention of a BPS student or Roxbury resident.
Will bring a few people out talking about thugs, subsidized housing abusers and various other dog whistle phrases. They probably don't overlap much with the crowd talking about these two.
Gaffin
Probably has an expensive plumbing or electrical issue at his house, hence all the bike lane, Southie and blm clickbait he's been posting lately. And I'm fairly certain he had his face tuned up by an O'Something or McSomething at some point, which would explain his deep hatred for anything Irish.
Yes, yes, that's it
It feels soooo good to unburden myself. My house sits at the bottom of a giant pit that is always filled with water and I know that only an Irish plumber can fix it. Thank you sooo much, Anon. I'd love to hear more of your telling truth to power, but I hear yer mom calling you - she wants to use her computer now, so do be a good little feller and give her a chance.
More million dollar condos,
More million dollar condos, please!
Make these guys the South Shore's problem.
You are only in the
You are only in the neighborhood for a few years anyway.
You are stereotyping all long
You are stereotyping all long time residents. Suggesting that everyone be pushed out is not a reasonable answer.
They can afford to go to a
They can afford to go to a Red Sox game and yet still live in public housing? Funny that these two are such big Trump supporters. The Donald would have cut their welfare benefits and kicked them out onto the streets just like the poor guy they beat the fuck out of. He probably would have called them "freeloaders" too. It's really hard to imagine what part of Trump's campaign message stood out to these guys enough to support him in such a manner. Maybe it was all the racist and hateful speeches he's given... or maybe it's just because he wants to make American great again.
Sox tix
You could've gone to a Sox game for the price of a gallon of milk this year, if you had to pay at all.
"It's really hard to imagine
"It's really hard to imagine what part of Trump's campaign message stood out to these guys"
Fear and xenophobia, mostly.
Also, the born-on-third base, bankruptcy-exploiting,
reality-boob-tube Professional Asshole and flogger of shitty, overpriced Chinese-made clothes Trump is "a winner". Pay no attention to most of the policy positions that boil down to, "I will tackle complex national and global problems through the sheer steamrolling power of my overweening ego." It's really that simple. Screw those effete eggheads with their understanding of science and reluctance to use nukes.
America!
These are Trumped up charges.
These are Trumped up charges.
Not really
More of a Trumped up crime!
