UPDATE: Second arrest made in the case.
Boston Police report officers investigating the sound of gunshots found a 17-year-old with what turned out to be multiple fatal gunshot wounds at 923 Parker St. shortly after 9 p.m. yesterday.
Not long after, police arrested Elbert Newson, 19, of Dorchester on Notre Dame Street in Roxbury and charged him with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of marijuana. Police say they found Newson "jogging, sweating, and breathing heavy, gasping for air." Police say Newson matches a description of a man seen running from the murder scene.
Innocent, etc.

Fairly glad my iPhone purchase trip took place on a different day.
Was I being inflamatory in my recap? I think not. Here's the link to that opinion... http://bowlofcheese.com/?p=1358
And yes, kudos to the police for a prompt response.

I just think his portrayal of the neighborhood is tainted by hyperbole and an overactive imagination. I think it's pathetic that he is using a kid getting killed to draw attention to his blog.
Fair enough, but ...

I know this post was discussed a few weeks ago.
A guy came to Jamaica Plain for what seemed to be the first time in his life and felt scared when he saw "gangs" running around (not actual gangs, just groups of kids. I think "gang" might be a code word for another group of people).
3 weeks later a kid is shot in the same neighborhood right next to the worst housing project in the Boston area.
The poster attempts to connect his "scary" experience with a kid being shot in the same area, and subtly blames it on the neighborhood being a crime-infested gangland. I stand by my statement that the poster is overzealous in his attempt to paint the neighborhood as a ghetto and feel that any type of post about any type of crime in JP would have resulted in Cheese Bowl linking to his blog as evidence that gangs overrun Jamaica Plain.
I don't want to act like crime is not a problem in JP, but I think this Bowl of Cheese is not in any position to characterize the neighborhood as crime-ridden and scary based on his very brief time here.

Kids in their own neighborhoods know they have the inherent "scary group of teenagers" potential to freak out people just by their being there. While it isn't entirely fair that teenagers scare the living sh-t out of some people, is anyone surprised that they use this to their advantage? My husband's students, a multiculti group, used to brag about doing things that amounted to "run up and say BOOGABOOGA to the pack of half-crocked suburban hockey moms leaving a bar" and run away while they freak out about OMFG CRIMINALS! Scream!
And if you look at them like they are lunatics or don't react, the joke is on them. In fact, you can make most of these "feel my teen scare power" groups feel quite nervous if you don't follow the script like cheesebowl did (see also "description of kids chasing my bike and ending up barking like a pack of stupid dogs" comment).

Actually just wanted to point out that I probably wasn't going through the nicest neighborhoods on my recent visit. Didn't mean to rile up the 'link police'.
Perhaps you missed my wrap-up note that the Boston Cops get my kudos for their quick and efficient work.
Maybe you'll like my Boston Police detail rant better. You'll have to google to find it as I don't want to get you all hyperventilating again.
Adam, thx for the explanation that others missed. I AM often sarcastic, but from my perspective I thought it was probably a matter of time (sadly such a short period of time) before someone got killed in that area.
Best,
Jeff

Yes...Newson did get charge with Possession of a Class D Drug (Marijuana) and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm....he also got charge with murdering my cousin (Thomas Webb III), it is just a matter of time before they get his partner. This was a sinceless murder that shouldn't have happen. I hope they lock Newson up and throw away the key. His bail is one hundred eight-eight thousand dollars, if he should make that bail (which I hope his family can't make), he will have to wear a bracelet that would only allow him to go to his lawyer's office. To me it isn't enough and it isn't going to bring my little cousin back to us.
