There's no disputing that Boston is much more of a fishbowl type atmosphere for baseball players than almost anywhere else. Some guys thrive on it, others (like Manny and Nomar) can't wait to get away.
“It’s just a different atmosphere. The fans in Boston got your back no matter what, but I’m talking about the people who write all this bull because it means so much to them. If your happiness depends on (the Red Sox [team stats]) winning or losing, you have to get a life.”
Im sorry to be the one to tell you this but the entire baseball multi million dollar empire is built on teams like the Red Sox and Yankees (and others like the Cubs ect) keeping people excited about the game. If fans in places like Boston were not so obsessed then salaries would be much much lower. I myself am a bit of a fair weather fan (Maybe I would be considered a fan in another city like LA?) who watches on occasion and Ive been to a few games in the past few years.
I agree with him, but it seems to me like he was happy to take the money and has himself been a bit of a disaster. I think were all better off he is on the other side of the country playing for a team that we rarely ever run into.
Sorry for supporting you for eight years even when you acted like a spoiled brat. Sorry for cheering for you when you couldnt run out a groundball when your team, im sorry my team, was being no hit. We are sorry for asking you to walk over and say hello to the jimmy fund kids a few times a year when they came to the park. We are sorry for asking you to even think about actually driving to a hospital to visit the kids too sick to ever come to the park. I know wakefield, or timlin, or pedroia or lowell or varitek would have given you a ride but....Sorry for buying your shirt and going crazy everytime you walked towards homeplate. Sorry for cheering for you the night you became an American citizen.Sorry for saying hello and asking for autographs when you came down from your penthouse at the Ritz in the heart of downtown boston. Sorry you didnt choose to live in a private part of brookline like the rest of your wealthy teammates. Sorry for supporting you for all those years when my wife told me you were a jerk. I guess i should have listened.
Yeah but we're all human. I'm sure there are other players on the team _right now_ who agree with everything Manny's saying.
I'm sure I'd be one of them. Is it really a big deal? Yes, to the people that obsess in the first place. But they'll just get angry and, soon after, talk about how much they love Pedroia and Ellsbury.
It seems like mostly Manny Ramirez hates CHB, the tools at the Herald, and those people who feel their own zealous fandom is personally responsible for the fortunes of the team. And can you blame him? Somebody tried to interview my kids, I'd be pissed off too. Leave the families out of it.
But I'm sorry, as a media person myself, I do sympathize with the guy on the point of people trying to interview his kids when they're just watching Daddy at the ballpark. Even as someone whose job does sometimes involve interviewing people, I understand the difference between a press availability and just being obnoxiously intrusive. Just because someone is visible to you, that doesn't mean you always have the right to pester them.

"hate"?
So where did Manny say he hated Boston? Seems to me that he was only saying that the Boston sports zealots unnerved him.
Can't say I disagree with anything he said

I really need to get off the green line. Dealing with Sox traffic on the subway is enough to make you hate 'em too.
If they were paying you 20
If they were paying you 20 million dollars a year to do something you love to do I would hope that you wouldnt mind a trainful of fans every so often.
He's human.

It really is no love lost.
No...

Manny and interviews and kids
Wasn't he the guy holding up his kid for some photo spread on his apartment at the Ritz or Four Seasons?
So that means they're fair
So that means they're fair game 24/7?
No, they're not
No, but it certainly reduces one's sympathy for a guy complaining about media intrusion in his life.
Poor guy, life is hard at
Poor guy, life is hard at the Ritz, I mean seriously they dont even have a helipad, lame.
There's no question that Manny is a douche

Manny is right
He's absolutely right. It's gotta be hard to be a slacker in a city where people expect you to do your job.
Hey Manny
It showed!
