How horrible. Too young, all
How horrible. Too young, all of them.
A Damn Shame
16 years old.....dying on cold pavement....Unidentified...Just a Damn Shame. Young men dying. Regardless of the circumstances...He's dead and others are left to mourn, and question why?
I'm sick of reading and
I'm sick of reading and watching what happened and not why it happened. In newspapers, on the news, on the internet...for all these Boston shootings and stabbings. What, in truthful detail, is possessing all these people to kill or attempt to kill others in our neighborhoods?
Ironically
Lots of people know usually when something happens. People talk. I've heard stories about why a particular murder happened before. And even a few fairly recent ones.
If you truly want to help...
...and I think you do, start talking to neighbors. Go do volunteer work for groups like Big Brothers Big Sisters, My Brother's Keeper, Operation LIPSTICK, and even contact your city councillors about programs to help at risk youth. The city of Boston also has a summer youth employment program. Ask your employer to hire a student for the summer through the Boston Youth Program. It's a great way to mentor a teenager who might otherwise go down a less desirable road.

Much merit
Those words have much merit to them. I grew up in an impoverished, horrible family. Despite that, every summer, the John Hancock/MLK scholars program kept me on a good path (and a job). It's important to invest in the youth.
I Worry About Those That Refuse
Ahab, Good for you! Young people and parents need to hear your testimony!
As I stated before, There are many good activities/programs available for young people.
"The System" does have positive intentions to help young people become assets, not liabilities to their communities.
The ones that refuse any attempts to help them change the direction of their lives, (because it ain't cool) are the ones I worry about. Some become older and more hardened, turning to crime, guns and gangs.
Parents, and guardians need to make sure their young kids, have positive programs to attend, and as they get older enforce the rule of doing something with their idle time, other than hanging out in the streets.
Easier said than done. I do
Easier said than done. I do work with a nonprofit and volunteer when I can so I feel good about that. But anyone who grew up in the inner city will be privy to certain things. By no means am I special or have info that others don't. And I don't adhere to any 'no snitching code.' Things are just complicated in some environs.
This is in direct relation to
This is in direct relation to an ongoing gang war involving the young Latinos in Eastie, Revere and Chelsea.
Sadly.......
Sadly you may be right. Then the retaliation violence ensues!
And the war is caused by what
And the war is caused by what? Kill the cause, not the people.
