Massive search on Cambridge/Somerville line for car thief

Even a State Police helicopter got brought in for the search as Cambridge and Somerville officers blocked some streets. The city of Somerville tweeted:

State police chopper over Somerville is assisting in search for repeat car thief. Not considered dangerous.

... if he's really "not considered dangerous" ?

You may not feel that way if he/she stole your car!

And it's good when officials are willing to say that a suspect is not considered dangerous. We shouldn't punish them for that by armchair quarterbacking the tactics before we even know what's going on.

You wouldn't think so.

This guy is connected to a ring that has been vacuuming up every damn pre-2002 Honda in a three city area lately. Catching this one means ending a crime wave, possibly also an entire ring.

Why would someone want every pre-2002 Honda?

or export to poor countries where people can't afford newer cars.

From what I recall from the 90's they were the easiest card to steal.

That's around when they started adding chips to the keys.

They're common and security is easy to bypass. Because of how many are on the road, there is a market for OEM parts, which are often chopped and flipped shortly after the theft.

That's what Adam was going for in his over dramatic sounding headline and summary. He often does things like this and it often works like he wants.

Thanks for the confirmatory message!

For the less conspiratorially minded, when I bring up my Twitter client and there are all these messages coming my way about a State Police copter circling Somerville and then Stanley Forman (you know, double Pulitzer-winning Stanley Forman) tweets out a photo of a street shut down by cops and then the city of Somerville feels compelled to assure residents, I go a) that's pretty massive and b) that's news.

I appreciated this article, as I rode by this on my way to work this morning and didn't know what was going on. Kept checking here to get info. So as an alternate view - thank you for posting!

It might not be excessive if he's responsible for a LOT of stolen cars, i.e., if they've got a pretty good clue that taking him off the street would prevent a lot of thefts. Having your car stolen REALLY sucks. BTDT.

Why stop with using these tactics for a car thief? Let's do the same for the architects of the 2008 financial melt down and the upcoming 2016 culprits.

You want to appoint this guy to a cabinet level position within the current administration?

Worked for all the Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns, and Lehman Brothers executives.
