Too bad...
Too bad this gets demoed in the not too distant future!
Not sure if this is better or worse than the trophies.
under a bridge?
must be books for the homeless or some prank by mit students....
i remember ride read return at porter sq t station.... a victim of its own
success... or the t ripped it down as an "eyesore" i recall lots of books
being there read and returned as usual then they were read and NOT
returned one man looking at the empty bookcase had a look of shock
on his face and said FUCK!
Not returned
It's courteous to return books, but the reason these free libraries work is that for most paperbacks, the secondary market value is a dollar or less, and lots of people have too many books that they're looking to get rid of. They're available everywhere and they're basically free: putting them out at a free library allows them to get a little more use before the end up in the recycle bin.

The trophies are waiting...
I have 4 more boxes of trophies patiently waiting for a home. The Irish step-dancing trophies are particularly fetching and deserve to be on display. Bring back the shelves!
Which side of Memorial Drive under the Longfellow?
The eastbound side (next to the river) or the westbound (towards-Kendall) side?
Kendall Side

Such a shame. It was a kind moment in the city.

( She just loves to take things away! )
Update: Globe article now gives reasons
from the Globe article:
Weird. Why would they board
Weird. Why would they board up the shelves if the wall was going to be demolished? Why not remove the shelves? Seems like an odd response.
Structural braces
The trophy case and now the library were built off of/used some structural braces for that soon-to-be-demolished wall.
