Guy crashes Bentley while drag racing down Beacon Street, hits pedestrian, gets out and flees in another car
By adamg on Sat, 03/19/2016 - 7:23pm
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Beacon Street at Exeter, Stanley Staco reports. The driver got out, jumped into a BMW X5 that sped off towards Storrow Drive.
WBZ reports the driver was drag racing another vehicle when he jumped the curb and hit the pedestrian.
Patrick reports the car was still running when first responders arrived:

International Student?
Or gangbanger from Mattapan?
Not a student
Students crash; they don't flee.
Hopefully someone got a plate of the BMW. The 2nd tweet lists the BMW plate number.Chances are the prints in the Bentley will match someone's on file.
Really?
More than one news story out there where super rich 'kids' from the Mideast don't think there are any consequences to their actions.
For example - http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-beverly-hills-cars-qatar-201...
Did you just try and cite a
Did you just try and cite a relevant link to a Boston story from the LA Times?
It wouldn't be the first time
It wouldn't be the first time that out-of-state news outlets reported a story that local ones all missed.
Example
Grand theft auto or affluenza?
The second car, the BMW, makes me think affluenza but what kind of an idiot would leave their own wrecked car and flee?
Answer: a rich one, who knows they're better off surrendering with their family criminal defense lawyer.
If grand theft auto, who's boosting two cars and drag racing with them?
Answer: too close to call but since I posed the question, I'm going with affluenza
So every time something
So every time something horrible happens just blame the blacks or foreigners. You sound like Donald Trump

Drive-by
The other one was a drive by.
Bentley Crime Confusion
the guy earlier this week was shooting from his Bentley not running over pedestrians. allegedly.
It's the occasional
It's the occasional Eurotrash student that drive these type of cars 19 to 23 year old Greek or wealthy Saudi nationals they enroll in 1 class at Harvard extension school and the rest of they're time they hangout at cafes and Eurotrash night clubs in Boston. And they put there peddle to the floor with these exotic cars and do 80 down comm ave endangering the people on the sidewalks.
Look closely at the videos..
Look closely at the videos...there was a dealer plate on the car. Probably a salesman or dealership relative in hot water.

Drag racing
Just updated the original post with a link to a WBZ report.
reporting
Notice the subtle bias with which reporters often treat reckless drivers:
That's right, folks: the car just decided to speed itself down a city street.
Wouldn't the following lead be so much more accurate?
The Channel 5 report is no better:
If I approach you on the street and fire a gun at your head and graze your arm, there's a good chance I'm going away for a bit, right? Imagine a world in which the two drivers of these cars were treated the same as if they'd shot a gun at the pedestrian and missed.
Leaving the scene of an injury crash
Carries pretty hefty penalties: six months to two years in prison.
Of course, they'll probably just use an extra big ruler for the slap on the wrist. But it would be nice to see this miscreant in jail for a while.
They should stack that sentence...
...on top of the 10 years the driver should get for felony assault. But of course, they won't. Assault somebody with your shod foot? Go to jail. Run over them with a 3-ton machine? Probation at best.
Weapons don't fire themselves, either
The reports of a shooting don't say "a handgun firing resulted in bullets injuring" either.
pretty close, actually
We keep hearing about "firearm deaths" or "gun deaths" like the real problem was the weapon rather than the person employing it to commit illegal acts.Like catnip for lazy, sleazy politicians.
Sure
Name another weapon available to the public that will injure or kill you through the wall of your home, while you're lying in bed. Can't do that with a knife.
Arson
A tire filled with gasoline leaned up against the front and back doors of a house and set ablaze. There was a rash of this in JP 10 years ago until they finally caught the monster. I think he's probably eligible for parole already.
If you want somebody dead and can plan in advance there are a million ways. There is nothing more versatile and effective for sudden self defense than a gun.
Car
Granted, it doesn't happen that often,
Bentley Continental GT.
Bentley Continental GT. These cars start at $200.000
I
Let's not get too carried
Let's not get too carried away here. I despise these guys and their behavior as much as you do. But calling this "attempted murder" would imply intent, and not matter how stupid and reckless the act, there isn't any evidence that they intended to kill anyone. The reporters would have been way out of line if they had used your suggested words.
Drag racing on a city street
That doesn't just happen. Sounds like intent to me.
That's like saying that someone shooting into a crowd didn't mean to kill people - he or she was just shooting the gun in a certain way.
BB Street Race
This was 2 blocks from my house and where I was when it happened. First of all very horrific crash and hope the pedestrian is ok. All too frequent of a scene in this neighborhood for years. My daughter and I missed getting clobbered by seconds a few weeks back...
I spoke to a woman on scene who was behind these guys when it started which was on Route 1 and continued across the Tobin Bridge to the Back Bay. They had been racing for miles at high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic. She lost them on the Tobin Bridge and came across the accident right after it happened when she got to the Back Bay. Driver of the Bentley jumped into the BMW after the crash and the took off on Back Street to Stororw. Bentley had dealer plates and it is assumed by police on scene that this was a stolen car from dealership at this point. Does not appear to be the all to typical foreign student from BU racing/crashing right now. Most likely locals. Don't read too much into it, just word on the street from those that were there...
Beacon street
needs some traffic calming and re-engineering. The block from the storrow ramp and right onto Clarendon is a mess at rush hour and needs new signals, block-the-box enforcement and dedicated right hand turn. Double parking further down Beacon results in all sorts of weaving in and out of the center lane. Finally, lights from Clarendon to Mass Ave should be staggered to prevent raceway conditions.
The Bentley perp (twerp?) should serve time and if a foreign student deported after doing some time.
Idiots drag racing down Comm.
Idiots drag racing down Comm. Ave. and Beacon St. do not stop for red lights or stop signs. I've seen this time and time again... entitled rich brats think they're above the law.
Eww no. There is already a
Eww no. There is already a traffic light at each intersecting street, and they're timed for 30mph. The best traffic calming is traffic lights.
For starters ...
30 mph is way too fast for a congested urban area.
Then there is the fact that drivers run these lights on a regular basis.
THE BEST TRAFFIC CALMING IS NOT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. Traffic lights are not even considered to be traffic calming at all! No idea where you got that idea, but discard it please.
Here's some references for what really works for traffic calming - note that "traffic lights" are not even mentioned?

you said
"30 mph is way too fast for a congested urban area" but that is in fact the basic speed law in Massachusetts. 25MPH is far too slow for Beacon St. Look, I agree with taking steps to make streets safer, but your approach and misinformation, stating the often used canard that 30MPH is speeding, is over the top.
Get informed and try to have a rational discussion instead of an emotional one.
Deaths drop with reductions in speed
30 mph is too fast for Beacon. Period. Lots of pedestrians, intersections, and activity make 30mph untenable. 20 would be more appropriate, and would be the default in many states.
Want to go faster than 25mph? Storrow drive and the Pike are available for that. You don't need Beacon as a speedway.
SOURCE
you said
which is completely false. Not a single state has a default residential speed limit of 20MPH (although Iowa and Oregon have a range 20-25).
The hard part of having a discussion with someone who is blind to facts is that they compound their misstatements with more false assertions until they wear you down.

The good thing is you don't
The good thing is you don't have to change the speed limit to change the signal timing. The city could easily change the signals for a 20 mph progression instead of a 30 mph one. You could technically/legally still drive 30 mph, but you'll just hit a red light.
Far too slow? Screw that. The
Far too slow? Screw that. The lives of pedestrians are important. Your ability to speed through a dense city so you can get home 2 minutes faster so you can watch Big Bang Theory reruns is not important.
After this and the speeding driver who killed 2 pedestrians also on Beacon Street something needs to be done. They should shut down Beacon to traffic to teach drivers a lesson and save a few innocent lives from the countless dangerous drivers in this city.
Well
Most drivers, even those whose speeds top 40 on Beacon Street, tend not to drive on the sidewalk. That was not the case in this situation.
A serious question- do you even have a license to drive?
Irrelevant
You don't need a driver's license to have a valid opinion, in the same way you don't need a license to carry to have a valid opinion.
Sure it's relevant
Every time there is a discussion involving motor vehicle, this guy comes along basically saying that motor vehicles and their drivers/owners are amongst the scum of the earth. Am I annoyed that he got his handle to troll me about the space saver issue last winter? Maybe, but sometimes I like to know how someone comes at an issue. For instance, Bob Leponge lives on Beacon Hill. When we were debating said issue last winter, difference between views were colored a lot due to that geography (which is not to say that he didn't strongly believe in his views on property rights.) Swirrly will talk about bicycles, but she also drives from time to time, so she sees both sides. I just want to get an idea of where his ideas on motor vehicles come from.
Now, if he did feel that I was being out of line and told me to pound sand, I'd be okay with that. Heck, I'd even give him some dap for that. Since you responded instead, I'll tell you to pound sand.
Chill
Except he didn't do that here, so apparently, you were wrong about that. I find it a lot more helpful and less stressful if I address the things that are currently in front of me. If somebody has a history of pushing my buttons, I try and ignore them, on the off chance that seeing people react is their motive.
You should learn to read
he wrote-
Thousands of vehicles safely use Beacon Street every day, and there have been 2 incidents in 2 years, one of which sadly ended in death, yet this guy wants to shut the road down entirely.
He doesn't like cars. I am curious why. If I am bugging you by pressing him on this, try to ignore me.
The problem is that too many
The problem is that too many lights in the Boston area aren't synced properly. They should be set so that driving at the speed limit or slower keeps you moving, but speeding means you'll catch a red.
Traffic calming = poorly synced lights = congestion, which causes gridlock, pollution, a lower quality of life for everyone (including transit riders, cyclists, local businesses & residents), and encourages things like speeding or running the light.
It's not so much that the lights are the problem
Instead of lights they should put in stop signs at each intersection. That will require everyone stop and slow automobile traffic way down. This should be done on the Tremont St speedway in the South End too (or it should be narrowed to one auto lane in each direction, like Columbus Ave), its current pattern obstructs the free flow of pedestrian traffic. Twice this past week on Tremont St, I've witnessed traffic in one lane stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, while traffic in the other lane obliviously flies by. I saw an elderly woman come within inches of her life when crossing at Canton St on Tuesday afternoon. There was no traffic on the outbound side, and cars in the inner inbound lane to let her cross (with me crossing right behind her), just as she was passing those cars, a BMW flew past the stopped cars on the right in the inbound lane and across the intersection with the occupied crosswalk. If she'd been a second earlier, she would have been a news story. I saw an almost identical thing happen on again a day or two later at West Brookline St.
Prefer 20mph limit
Would much prefer a 20mph limit on streets like Tremont & Beacon.
Stopping at every block is bad for the environment, as well as annoying when there are no ped's out.
But I have also seen cars swerve around a car stopping for peds. 20MPH plus enforcement seems like a smart plan. One lane each way with a median for peds, and/or turn lanes at key intersections also makes sense.
It was just under 2 years ago when a couple walking down Beacon by Fairfield, one block away, were killed by another idiot in an expensive car? Although that wasn't drag racing, everyone is aware that this a very dangerous stretch of Beacon St.
Where are the police?! In this so-called "world-class" city?! How many more pedestrians will have to fie before the city of Boston pays attention to this problem - and for more than the next two weeks, which is about how long they'll have police keep an eye on the area.
Shameful!
And I'm going to take a wild guess that this skank driver was a part of the Boston Eurabia trash scene - which means just a slap on the wrist. Daddy's money talks in Boston!
Any updates on the pedestrian?
Any updates on the pedestrian?
Eyewitness report
An eyewitness told a reporter on scene that the victim was able to stand up on his own and was taken to the hospital.
Enforcement
It's time to get the city to enforce road rules.
They were racing for sure
Video appears to show them racing seconds before the crash. Bentley in the lead. BMW looks like a convertible.
This is the kind of picture
This is the kind of picture that comes to my mind when I see one of these commercial flaunting a car with hundreds of superfluous horse powers, and 4 or 5 seconds from 0 to 60: The ultimate killing machine.
As much as I'm against capital punishment
I will freely admit there's a part of me that wishes that when they catch this guy they could hang him from a lamppost and let the crows at him.
that's a little harsh
don't you think? Perhaps, after appropriate jail time, the perp should be forced to only drive a Reva G-Wiz, in bright yellow of course.
Great idea, but then our
Great idea, but then our beaches wouldn't be safe... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4RfZsdKYig
Idiots driving
The car had a dealer plate on it so somebody was either test driving it for the day or daddy who owns the dealership gave the keys to his son who crashed it. Either way I live in back bay I'm sick of people driving like idiots down here more often then not its wealthy college kids or others idiots looking to drive their cars 2 mph down newbury street then 100mph down beacon. Now you have these idiots on dirt bikes and 4 wheelers riding wheelies around so it's only a matter of time before they kill somebody
Herb Chambers?
Herb Chambers is the only Bentley dealer in Boston.
Car (on Dealer Plates) was likely this one:
http://www.bentleyboston.com/new/Bentley/2016-Bentley-Continental+GT-Bos...
or this one:
http://www.bentleyboston.com/new/Bentley/2016-Bentley-Continental+GT-Bos...
Meanwhile, Wikipedia says Chambers lives in the Back Bay when in Boston:

re: Herb Chambers?
Doubtful that he is this much of an idiot and he's usually home in CT on weekends. That and witnesses on the scene (I was there, neighbor) described both the Bentley driver and the BMW driver as black males, which Herb is only the latter.
Used Bentley could come from
Used Bentley could come from any dealer. The plate number tells which dealer.
How hard is it to track them down?
They left the car, with plates, right there. I would imagine that the dealership wouldn't want to be slapped with an obstruction charge. So let's get on with this. Name and shame the bastards.
