Everyone there is ok.
I checked in with a long-time friend who lives in the house, and she reports that nobody was hurt, and though there is damage to a couple of rooms, the roof, etc., the house is still habitable.
Glad nobody was hurt. And
Glad nobody was hurt. And also glad that the house wasn't too damaged, as it appears to be one of the great historical structures with character. Architectural character doesn't exist anymore when you see the new proposals for residential/mixed use development. Kudos to owners of the magnificent old homes of Dorchester, Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and other Boston neighborhoods who appreciate and maintain their beauty and history.
I, too, am glad to hear that nobody was injured or killed,
and that the house is still habitable (although in need of some cleaning of the soot, and repairs to a couple of rooms.)
Thanks Miki
thank you for your concern
Thank you, David, for calling and for posting on our behalf. We are, indeed, all OK, and the house is structurally sound, although it will need significant repairs to at least two rooms and special cleaning for the soot. I'm so grateful to the firefighters and to our neighbors who stopped by to check on us.
