BPS kids won't get Bunker Hill Day off this year

But it's for a good reason: That way, the last day of school this year will be June 24, a Friday, rather than June 27, a Monday. BPS and the Boston Teachers Union agreed to the change for the holiday that is only celebrated in Boston and Somerville (because it used to be part of Charlestown).

Welcome to the real world. Those of us in the dreaded private sector don't get off Bunker Hill day, Evacuation Day or Patriot's Day
Yes but
Some of us in the real world have to work holidays like "Christmas Day" and "Thanksgiving" but that doesn't mean school should happen those days too.
And those of us in the
And those of us in the teaching profession often have summer jobs, commitments, and classes to take in order to stay certified that start on the day that we've been told summer "vacation" beings. Very often students also have vacation plans, summer camps and many other things going on that start the first day of vacation. Parents need to plan for day care for the younger kids.
I'm not saying those days shouldn't be made up, I'm am saying it's more complicated than just not wanting to come in on a Monday.

Ridiculous. Can there be one
Ridiculous. Can there be one post about schools that doesn't involve someone bashing teachers. If you are so envious of our cushy schedules why don't you become a teacher??? I don't think anybody can say that it makes sense for the schools to open for a half day on Monday. Teachers were not even asked about this, we got an email from the city, followed by one from the union informing us of the change.
