The Globe reports on the investigation, in which former union leader Marty Walsh was recorded on a wiretap before he became mayor.
The Herald, meanwhile, takes a look at why the Walsh angle might have been leaked.

Walsh represents everything the Globe has demonized

since the early 70's. He's white, Irish, Catholic and blue collar. Not a beautiful person, no Ivy league cred. They just can't believe he's mayor. Push what they perceive as a political weakness in hopes of stringing together a coalition to back Tito or Ayanna and bring the city back to the "vault" days.

There's a bigger problem than any issue involving Walsh or unions.
That bigger problem is something that the Herald article hints at: The Feds themselves... And the Globe's unholy alliance with the Feds.
See www.mattofboston.com for many posts on what the Feds have been up to, with or without the Globe.
He doesnt need The Globe.

about the fact 'progressives' and the so-called vault share an intense dislike for big city white 'ethnic' so-called blue collar (trades, etc.) males. Whites of especially lower middle and so-called working class (of which MANY 'blue collar' aren't; many make well $ well above lower socioeconomic status), and of course 'poor' have been demonized and used as scapegoats by especially academic and upper middle class 'progressives' since at least the 1970s. Class is a HUGE but almost entirely unspoken issue in the US, even among so-called progressives.
Welcome to the charter school debate!

Are we really surprised he's caught up in this?
It just make his support (and disregard for the general public's opinion) for the Olympics, GE, and IndyCar race look even more sleazy than it ever was.

if you're so deluded that you think somebody that will take credit for bringing indycar and GE headquarters to boston is an automatic 1 term mayor, you need to spend more time talking to people that aren't on the internet
you forget who finances elections and who votes.

i have no idea why you keep pushing this one term mayor line of thinking. He is immensely popular, has large approval ratings, a big war chest, and he's the incumbent. Do you know how hard it is to beat an incumbent mayor in Boston? Assuming that everyone thinks like you despite a lot of evidence to the contrary is a foolish thing to do when making political predictions.

the difference between you and i is that i dont need this place to be an echo chamber for me, and i don't let that impact my grasp on reality. you genuinely should consider getting help//actually getting out more if you think marty will be widely vilified for the things he has done.
that just isn't how the real world works. yeah, i'm writing this on the internet same as you. except my foundation for it is based on actual interaction, not on the amount of people that thumbs up my angry remarks over space savers and NO OLYMPICS BOSTON RARGHGHHHh or UGHHHHHHH DEVELOPMENT OF BOSTON BY MASSIVE CORPORATION GJBASNJGHHHHH
am i in favor of the olympics here? nope, my post history indicates as much. do i think that this GE thing is probably being handled poorly, yep. but i also understand that things like GE headquarters and the olympics coming to a city are usually seen as positive steps by:

I'm encountering a lot of people who aren't particularly pleased with Mahhty outside of the wonderful, friendly world of the intertubes. In fact the only people I've heard speak positively of him either work for him or orgs that have business with the city. (disclosure: I want him to succeed, but he just keeps doing stupid shit.) The question is whether enough of them vote in numbers sufficient to counter the amount of money he's built up and the power of the unions at election time in this town. I suspect the answer might be "nope."

YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT ME, WHAT I'M THINKING, WHO I'M TALKING TO, AND HOW I FORM MY OPINION.
So don't make an assumption about something or someone you don't know anything about. Because it's clear you don't know anything about me.
Now, excuse me, I have work to do, you know.. like interact with real people. Unlike someone *ahem* who posts hour after hour on here.

You didn't vote for any of the other people who ran for mayor of Boston in 2013, and you will most likely not be voting for an opponent Walsh has in 2017. And I can say that for a fact about a lot of other people who post on this board.
Nothing against just about anyone's opinions on just about any topic here, but sometimes this place can be an echo chamber that does not jibe with the way people on Boston (or greater Boston) view things as a whole.
