The BPL is supposed to be a quiet & safe place to crack open an encyclopedia or a magazine, I don't understand why there would ever be police activity there.

And not all homeless are "mentally unstable". Some are. Some are not.

Of course not all homeless people are mentally unstable, but almost all of the homeless hanging out at BPL are.

Come on people. Anyone who becomes homeless feels the depression and some form of mental instability sooner or later. Having worked closely with the homeless and sat down and listened to their voice from all walks of life for so many years, it is sad to say they have all shown some form of mental illness. It sucks.

Untreated/under-treated mental illness can contribute to the factors that lead to homelessness.

Maybe they were there because unsafe or unquiet activity was taking place. Just an idea.

Unsafe and unquiet activity in that library. I stopped going there once the Brighton branch reopened. It was a more annoying haul for fewer books, but I also never feared turning a corner there.

Unless your post is sarcasm, what library do you go to? The one on "Leave It To Beaver"? There are legions of mentally unstable people roaming all over the BPL, many of whom practice no personal hygiene at all. I also saw a slovenly man pleasuring himself at one of the tables once.

And encyclopedias? Really? Magazines aren't far behind on the extinction list either.

I'm sitting in the library right now, no ones getting arrested, or causing a disturbance, or choking the chicken, at least that I can see. I guess sometimes bad stuff happens in nice places, and the rest of the time, bad stuff doesn't happen there. And yeah, there are some people reading books and magazines.

I'm surprised this got reported, but yeah the library is full of unstable people. And it smells. I wish it weren't so. Thank God for ebooks, I never have to go back. They got rid of too many books anyway. Why not just make it a homeless shelter?
