Slobs in Westwood trash local woods; man reads about it, cleans up their mess

And then liveblogs it on Boston Reddit:

Jesus Christ. So much crap here. Definitely Westwood , school bags Left too. A package labeled "36 white balls" I assume that's what these kids call themselves.

I've come across the same thing in my old town. Whomever did it even left a case of beers behind, I assume to come back for.

I went home, got a bag and picked up the trash. Then I put the beers out for the trash men as it was a trash day and figured they'd bring them home.

It's not a new thing.

When the guys were young and there were still teen parties in the woods, I used to send them out with gloves and bags to clean up the empties. We would take them to Kappy's and they would get the money.

The neighbors would slip them money for their cleanup services, too, which motivated them all the more.

Bonus points: to this day they cannot stand the smell of swill beer.

Are your kids for hire?? There's plenty of empties left behind by college kids partying in the Fens.

I doubt it would pay better than the jobs that they have.

It was "big money" for an eight and six year old - not so much at 20 and 18!

Props to the dude who drove out, found the spot and cleaned it all up. Hope Fox25 follows up on their offer to run a story on it with feedback from HS admins and the police

Love his writing style " ... Don't thank me thank my love of hiking and temporary unemployment ... "

That's news?

The Fox25 comment on Reddit made it sound like the clean up was what they were really covering, but we'll have to see.

get a life, bozo. littering sucks but sneaking beer into the woods with your friends is a rite of passage.

hell, drinking beer in the woods with your friends is still fun even when youre a lot older. though 'in the woods' now means 'at our friend's house that lives outside of the city, in his garage'

whatever. can still see trees.

besides, it seems like sometimes teenagers being messy ends up creating jobs.

There was an elderly childless couple that lived on my street growing up. There were so many kids in the neighborhood that the husband just called every boy "Tony" and every girl "Mary" rather than trying to learn the names. He used to go for walks around town and would go to where the kids drank beer in the woods the following day to collect the aluminum cans because a truck would come and park in town once a week and buy the cans for their value as scrap metal. I think they paid about 17 cents a pound at the time.

When the bottle bill passed the neighbors were kidding him telling him that he was going to have to go out and get a "real job" because there wouldn't be any more cans to collect. Those kids weren't carrying the empties out of the woods plus he was able to add bottles to the mix and started bringing in a lot more money.

If only the arrogant kid's parents showed that much respect there would be far less trash in the first place.

Seem to make a tradition from time to time in the Arbo....I get the drinking thing, I get the party thing, I have never got the litter thing...

I think it's the same reason kids throw empty Bud Lights out of the car window. If you hold onto it until you get to a trash or recycling location you are carrying the smoking gun that you are drinking. Toss the empty and the evidence is gone.

"No officer, that ripped open 30 pack containing 28 un-opened cans belongs to my dad. "

That kids and litter in general is a hell of a lot better in 2016 than it was in 1986 or 1976.
