Anulfo Baez introduces us to the new mural at 1720 Dorchester Ave., by Marcelo Ment, finishing up a residency at Brandeis:
A member of the first generation of graffiti artists in Rio do Janeiro, Marcelo Ment's work has been widely published in books and catalogs. Ment's murals can be seen on the streets of many cities around the world, including those of Rio do Janeiro, Los Angeles, Miami and now Boston.

Rio
Having taken two trips to Rio this year, I have to say the street art there is just absolutely incredible. Great work by the artist on the mural.
Looks amazing
Wish Boston embraced street art the way so many other cities do.
Unfortunately there are other murals sprouting up on Dot Ave
These murals are in all sizes, painted on old doors, plywood, and recycled signs. They are finger-painted with green paint and white letters. They look like a kindergarten poster project. But I am told the painter is allegedly an adult.
They say " Doug Bennett Register of Deeds"
They are a blight on the neighborhood. Cant Inspirational Services find some reason to close this operation down?
Paid Work
This is an artist promoting himself and a community organization spinning a paid work into a "mural for the community". The iconography is random, there is a large dog, it is a pet store, and the artist incorporates " Boston Strong." tag. I wish people weren't so easily impressed and taken advantage of. This is a decorative, commercial work, nothing more.
...
Oh, the horror: Paying an artist for his work!
I'm guessing you're not a student of art history.
