Will wonders never cease? Dunkin' Donuts proposed for Newbury Street
The Boston Licensing Board next week considers a request to allow a Dunkin' Donuts to open at 270 Newbury St., between Fairfield and Gloucester.
This would be Newbury Street's first Dunkin' Donuts since the one that used to be down near Newbury Comics closed, saving shoppers the time it would now take them to walk over to one of the Dunkin' Donuts on Boylston Street. By contrast, there are two Starbucks on the street.
The outlet would have 16 patio seats for watching the world go by as you sup on a Frozen Dunkaccino and a Snack N' Go Chicken Wrap. Its proposed hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The board's hearing starts at 10 a.m. in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

Adam, there used to be a Dunkin' Donuts a few storefronts down from Mass. Ave. at that end of Newbury Street.
Yup
it was next to the paint store, a little ways down from the Urban Outfitters.
It was there at least in 2008 or 2009, I remember because I was Christmas shopping while shamefully broke and a $1 Dunkin was all I could afford.
So you spend $1 on coffee by
So you spend $1 on coffee by choice knowing you could not afford it? Hopefully you do not carry credit card for your own sake.
$1?
You got something for $1 in Dunkin Donuts?
$1.04 buys a Donut
It's not gourmet but sometimes a DD Donut has the right mix of sugar and fat to hold you over until you get home.
There, I said it.
Thanks!
I've edited the original post to reflect that.
What was formerly at this address?
Previously...
It seems to have been a place called Tervis selling plastic stuff. Prior to that it was Firefly Jewelry and Gifts. Street view with the selectable dates is a wondrous thing.
I was going to say
I didn't think that the plastic company Tervis would be able to sustain an entire store.
Then I realized they weren't, because their store went out of business.
Their tumblers are pretty
Their tumblers are pretty great. (Just maybe not Newbury St. great.)
The previous Newbury St. DnD
The previous Newbury St. DnD failed, and it's not like the rent is cheaper years later, so perhaps the new owners didn't do their market research?. There was nothing wrong with the first store on Newbury... it was much cleaner than most DnD stores and the staff was very friendly. The few times I went there when my NH relatives were in town (they refuse to drink any other coffee), I thought the coffee tasted like it was freshly brewed. Dunks isn't cheaper than Starbucks... so how will a store one block away from a failed location succeed?

Word in the neighborhood was the previous store on the N side of the street didn't fail, they were priced out of the building. Big difference between failing and having the rent jacked.
Makes sense. Didn't know
Makes sense. Didn't know their rent was jacked up tho of course no surprise for Back Bay.
There is already one that is
There is already one that is a two minute walk away on Boylston between Exeter and Fairfield.
