Transit Police evacuated an outbound train at Haymarket shortly before 6 p.m.:

So that's what happened. I was on the train and all I heard was it's "coming out of service," and we were dumped.

When in American history did any unidentifiable object start getting treated as a bomb? Was there a certain movie or TV show in the 1970's or earlier that caused everybody's imaginations to run wild?
