Correct me if I'm wrong, but this project building is geared towards elderly individuals. This was someone's grandmother.
The area is becoming safer, but it's still the city and we'll always have incidents like this unfortunately.

This is two blocks from my house. I walk here all the time, at all hours. Very frightening. I'm disturbed to hear this, and concerned for the woman this happened to. I did not know that about the building being geared for elderly--I haven't noticed if it is true.

There is practically zero police and park ranger presence at Franklin Park. In addition to the constant speeding around of dirt bikes you have people drinking, using drugs, etc and I wouldn't be surprised if the attacker was one of those people.

Once Menino told BPD to get rid of the mounted unit (horses) that was the end of the police presence in the Emerald Necklace. The bike cops that were supposed to replace the horses in parks are all assigned elsewhere.
Hmm.

I think that the park itself is very safe though. I mean yes--I'd love to see more police/ranger presence but this didn't actually happen in the park. And yes, it's near the Shattuck which definitely seems to be a magnet/source of some issues but not all.
