Edward Everett Square could get new condos
By adamg on Thu, 08/25/2016 - 3:17pm
A used-car dealership at 1258 Massachusetts Ave. would make way for 40 condos in two six-story buildings under plans recently filed with the BRA.
The plans, from developer Douglas George of Roseclair Boston, LLC, also show almost 1,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. He's proposing 37 parking spaces and says five of the condos would be marketed as affordable.
The units would be split between studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
George hopes to begin construction of the $12.5 million project this fall, with completion scheduled for the end of 2017.

Good
Fair Play to Doug for developing properties within spitting distance of where he grew up.
This is a great addition to Mass Ave and the growing neighborhood corridor that will eventually hook the South End and Dorchester together. Give it 30 years but it is happening.
For those of you complaining about the parking, there is an almost equal hoof to Andrew, JFK UMass, Newmarket, and Uphams Corner stations and the walk to the commuter rail stations with their lesser amounts of service isn't all its cracked up to be.
The rear of the first floor, which faces a union hall I think, isn't the best place for another unit to be jammed for the sake of another residential unit. All he is doing is adding lots of residential housing to a place that already has a lot of cars parked on it.
Good year for the Georges....
his wife becomes City Councilor, big condo project, life is good.
But then where will we get
But then where will we get our used cars?
Junior's in Hyde Park, of
Junior's in Hyde Park, of course.
Good addition
Used car lot turned into housing with easy access to transit is good news for that stretch. Plus with building across the street, and Dot Brewery it'll be a nice way to enter Dorchester. Glad to see investment in the neighborhoods.
Surprise - they look EXACTLY
Surprise - they look EXACTLY like every other condo or apartments that are being built in this city.
Suggestions?
How else should they look? At one time, do you think people were complaining that all the brownstones looked alike? All the Cape-style homes looked alike? Do you have any other suggestions on how housing should look? Upside down maybe?
