I usually take the 71 and this morning, at 8:20ish the next two buses were coming in 42 and 44 minutes, per nextbus. I thought maybe the buses weren't tracking, but gave up after fifteen minutes and walked the 2.5 miles to harvard sq.
Looks like you had plenty of company

I biked to work along Mt. Auburn St. this morning and I saw plenty of people walking, presumably because they'd given up on the bus.
Damn ents and their moots.

I took this bus daily on weekdays for two years until I got a car last November, partially because service was so unreliable. Today my car was in the shop, and I decided to walk to work instead of dealing with the bus - very glad I did! Oddly, I walked down Mount Auburn before the tree snafu happened (around 7am), and only two buses passed me on the way. Maybe service preemptively slow?

I live right around the corner. I was out on my deck this morning, and I'm pretty sure I heard the hideous screeching/smashing sound when this happened. It was so loud that I thought maybe a car had crashed through one of the storefronts in the little pull-through driveway by the Star Market there, and was a little surprised that I didn't hear sirens afterwards.
Thanks for sharing this - glad no-one seems to have been hurt.

I was near Mount Auburn Hospital around 8am when the power to the trackless trolley went out. I saw the damage at Belmont Street - the wires were drooping and the trolley pole was bent, with quite a chunk of the tree wrapped around it.

ran the non-trackless buses in this case. They usually do that when the tracklesses are out of order.
