Orange Line riders, wonder what's new? There's a dead train at Mass. Avenue
By adamg on Thu, 12/29/2016 - 8:54am
UPDATE, 9 a.m. Delays officially upgraded to "severe."
An Orange Line train has gone to its just rewards at Mass. Ave. and now riders get to experience "moderate" delays, although some are questioning the use of that word:
I don't think sitting here for 25 minutes during rush hour is "moderate".
And then there are the people who are actually sitting on the train at Mass. Ave. - seems the driver won't let them off, and is wondering if somebody's pulled the emergency cord, a UHub correspondent on the train reports.
He updates:
A staff member came by accusing us of pulling the emergency brake. ffs.
Because the T never breaks down on its own.

Winter Resiliency plan was supposed to prevent these problems
Why is it not working?
Because the Winter Resiliency Plan ...
Can't do much about the 1980s trains that run on the Orange Line.
The plan was based on heavy
The plan was based on heavy amounts of snow. We couldn't anticipate the lack of snow.
Surely because it didn't
Surely because it didn't include more privatization.
The winter resiliency plan
The winter resiliency plan was developed to excuse poor service in the summer when they were "preparing for winter," not to actually improve service. How would improved service help Baker make the case for further gutting the T?
The winter resilency plan
The winter resilency plan deals mostly with track and power issues, and getting more snow fighting equipment. Other than installing small plows on some of the rapid transit cars, the primary thing done to the cars for the winter was to buy more spare motors to keep in stock. All other problems with the cars will only be solved when the new China/Springfield built cars start rolling in in 2018.
Severe Delays
Wow first moderate now severe what is the final step? Its good to know if someone pulls the emergency brake that the staff from the MBTA will respond within forty minutes.
Adam's best ever transit failure rhyme?
It's got a beat I can dance to.
