UPDATE: Power didn't come back until 6:30 a.m. or so.
On a cold January night, several blocks in the area of Warren Gardens and along Warren Street lost power after 7 p.m. Eversource is estimating a restoration time of 12:30 a.m. The T eventually brought buses in for residents to stay warm in.

locations in Roxbury to stay warm - spread the word

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD. Not just social media but consider texting people you know in the affected locations. WE knocked on some doors but it's too late to be waking folks up with heavy knocking or using the bullhorn. But folks might get colder as the night goes on. The message:

If you know someone without power in Roxbury near one of these locations, there is an MBTA bus at each location where you can get warm. The buses will be there for as long as the power is out.

Warren Street & Whiting Street
Boston Police area B-2 in Dudley Square has also welcomed folks to stay warm there.

Power JUST came on. No heat all night! Eversource claimed to have it back on at 930, then 11, then 1230.

Was the power outage related to the 2 huge booms heard in the area last night? My lights flickered briefly immediately before each boom, which were a couple of hours apart.

This is inexcusable, and that's not a word I use lightly. Last night wasn't the coldest night we have had or will have this winter, but Boston residents (particularly apartment dwellers) have no alternate means of heating their homes if electricity goes out. I live in the sticks, and when we have a power outage in the winter, the utility companies understand that it's a life-threatening emergency and act accordingly.

But I recall seeing people heat apartments/room with the oven. Assuming it's not electric, that's safe for a night or an emergency right?

Oddly, my building was getting some juice so we were able to turn on our electric oven and the family slept in the adjecent room. We have no idea the cause but our lights flickered and slowly died out, it was strange. Only two front rooms worked which is where my oven and parlor are located but no heat from either thermostat controls.
