An old favorite and a new one
The one that always kills me is the Plum Island reference, as listed above. A virtually non-existent place, never heard about at any other time, it all of a sudden becomes of supreme importance when it snows and nobody knows exactly why. Also, a relatively new one is "impact weather day". I heard it about 45 times in 15 minutes on the news this morning. What marketing person worked overtime thinking that one up?

It also has houses falling into the sea during big storm surge events, and homeowners who whine about how the state hasn't spent billions to preserve buildings that were in peril from the day that they were built.
