Massachusetts has two capes - Ann and Cod - but only the latter is The Cape.

Here is a little note for the outsiders: In refrence to the direction of the Cape it is, "You going down to the Cape?" or even "You going down Cape?". If I was going to P-Town it would be, "Way down Cape".

Why is everyone always going down the Cape even if they're from Rhode Island? Shouldn't it be "out to the Cape"?JohnGrew up in Hangover, MA & Brewsta, MA, now in Foster City, CA

I'm from the Cape and all my relatives from up near Boston always come "down the Cape". Even before we moved to the Cape and lived in CT, we went "down the Cape" to my grandma's cottage. It's not one of those things that can be explained, just accepted.

Down Cape comes from two things (maybe). At least I heard tell a two, both from sailors. First,(or Firstly if yar a Bahstin lawya) it's from sea navigatin. Eastwud is to lowah longitude, so yah go down, not out Cape. Second, (or Secondly...) ya sail downwind to go East cuz we know the wind always blows from the West on the Cape.

FYI-If it weren't for the tourist who visit the there would be no CAPE COD at all. Most of our $ come from them and we should celebrate their arrival-treat them with dignity and respect, thank them for choosing to come HERE as opposed to other destinations. Seriously, the summer people pay taxes too. Geez, what r u thinking?
