Pair of Wamps charged with stealing guy's phone, dragging him with a car at Braintree T stop

Transit Police report arresting two people on charges of unarmed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for an incident yesterday afternoon at the Braintree T station.
Police say the victim, 22, had agreed to meet Jeffrey Diauto, 20, and a 17-year-old, both of Braintree, in the parking garage at the Braintree T stop around 2:40 p.m. yesterday after they answered his ad to sell his iPhone on what police said was "a popular social media site:"
As the two male suspects were "inspecting" the victim's phone they sped off in the vehicle they arrived in. The victim in an attempt to retrieve his phone held onto the vehicle and was dragged a short distance ultimately landing on the pavement sustaining abrasions about his body. The suspects made good their escape.
Diauto and the teen, not named because of his age, were arrested last night on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unarmed robbery, police say.

How is it possible to commit
How is it possible to commit assault and battery with a dangerous weapon while simultaneously committing unarmed robbery?
Does the weapon become less dangerous, less weapon, during the robbery phase?
I congratulate the prosecutor on treating a car as a dangerous weapon but you can see that they can't quite carry thru on the implications here...

OK, here goes:
They stole the guy's phone. That's the unarmed robbery charge.
Then they jumped in their car and drove away. And didn't stop while the victim is hanging on. That's the assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the car) charge.
Criminal charges are not a timeline - one charge does not have to follow the other.
