Guy spills drink on DJ's equipment at Brighton pub, then he and pals beat DJ up

An exchange of words over a drink spilled on the DJ's equipment at Porter Belly's, 338 Washington St., last month ended up as an all out assault on the DJ, who had to be taken to nearby St. Elizabeth's for treatment, a Boston Police sergeant and a pub manager said today.

Testifying at the Boston Licensing board, the sergeant and manager said a patron spilled a drink on the DJ's equipment around 12:50 a.m. on Feb. 20. The DJ told the guy to be more careful, that led to more words, the guy and three pals began cursing and threatening him and then they jumped him, knocking him to the ground, where they kicked him and smacked him in the back of the head with a hard object before the manager and a barback managed to pull them off.

The manager said that as he and his staff tended to the DJ, the four men fled out the door. Police said they had little to go on in terms of identification - the DJ could say only that they were white, that one was fat and that one was skinny. The manager said they were not regulars.

The licensing board decides Thursday if the bar could have done anything to prevent the attack and, if so, what punishment, if any, to levy.

I can't stand when guys (or gals) beat up innocent people and then get away with it.

And I also don't like it when someone is likely seriously injured, like this:

"knocking him to the ground, where they kicked him and smacked him in the back of the head with a hard object"

yet most of the comments are making light of the incident.

That guy could be facing a lifetime of pain or disability.

finding the perps who did this and holding them responsible for their actions. Instead, we are focusing on bringing the bar owner before a kangaroo court run by bureaucratic hacks who are under the delusion that bartenders and bouncers are mind readers who should be able to immediately sweep in and stop events like this from happening.

Because of this misdirected focus, is it any wonder then that most people reading stories like this are inclined to make light of the circumstances when such incidents occur.

"White guys, one fat and one skinny". That certainly narrows down the suspect pool.

Fat and skinny had a race/outta the club to beat a case/the DJ fell down and broke his face/so the culprits won the race.....#Trash
