South Coast Today reports the Brayton Point power plant in Somerset, the last coal-fired plant in the state, gets turned off permanently today, meaning the main remaining consumers of coal now are a small number of trendy pizza places.

I remember as a kid in upstate NY, just once seeing a coal truck pull up to a neighbor's house and pouring coal down the chute into his basement. The house I grew up in had a boarded-up coal chute and a room that was once the coal bin.

Amazingly, at least as of 2015, there were still more than 3,000 residences apparently heated by coal, which would appear to be three times the number heated by solar. Those numbers seem dubious, but you never know I guess.
