Herald apologizes to readers for the Globe sucking
When the Globe packed up its Morrissey Boulevard printing presses and moved everything to a new plant in Taunton, that included the Herald - which the Globe prints under contract.
And with the Globe continuing to apologize to its print readers for production problems, the Herald has been forced to chime in, via a pretty harsh note in today's paper.
We are upset that the paper you count on for the best news, sports and entertainment coverage in Boston is poorly reproduced, is frequently late or not delivered to our home delivery customers or at a retail store. Sadly, the printing problems that plagued the Globe 81 days ago have not been corrected.
We talk with the Globe on a regular basis but unfortunately the remedies they put forth to solve the production problems have failed miserably.

I'd like to see that in print
Except I can't find a copy of the Herald today.
Somehow from 1872 to 2015, the Boston Globe was able to publish a paper every day (except for the Blizzard of '78, but they may have just produced the paper only to be unable to distribute it, and of course during pressman strikes.) Nowadays, with theoretically much better technology, they could not put a paper out today because, well,...?
The Herald Sucks
The Globe sucks and you suck. Happy Friday my dudes
Isn't it money?
Money sold off facilities, and money could still make logistics work well enough to honor contracts with the Herald.
Herald Subscriber
You know what's not helpful? Missing a day of home delivery and having your delivery person just stuff the previous day's paper in with the current paper. Or throwing out a barely legible water-logged paper because the delivery person can't be bothered to double bag it. As a Herald subscriber, this happens to me at least once a week. The delivery is so terrible and so inconsistent that I've tried numerous times to cancel my subscription only to get lost in phone tree purgatory. Yesterday's paper never came and when I attempted to call the home delivery line I was met with a recording telling me that the paper wasn't coming and everyone would get a credit. Impeccable timing, Herald. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
gotta be so humiliating ..
Guess the invisible hand of the free market has decided the Herald is too weak of a publisher to handle their own printing and distribution efforts. That's some salty medicine for the belts-and-boostrap crowd that laps their material up
Is John Henry embarrassed?
Or is this all a plot to rid himself of a competitor?
John Henry embarrassed ?????
Here are the tweets of Managing Director of the Boston Gobe, John Henry's wife Linda Pizzetti since Aug. 17:

2) Lady Gaga

4) Red Sox sweep Toronto
5) Billy Joel
6) How to help Hurricane Harvey victims
7) Liverpool Soccer
8) Liverpool Soccer
9) Liverpool Soccer
10) John Henry is taking charge of changing the name of Yawkey Way
That's the type of hard hitting journalism we expect in this town, and an example to young women everywhere on how to work hard and use all your assets to become a millionaire!
Espero que si yo estudio y trabajo tan duro como ella yo seré rico también!
Tweets are lightweight promotional stuff
You haven't figured that out yet?
Then why does the NY TIMES and everyone else....
Put credence in what the President of the United States tweets out?
Also, sure it's promotional stuff. Why doesn't she promote some of the hard hitting journalism the paper she is managing director of do???
If Linda is actually managing the globe....
I'm the POTUS.
It says it right there on her Twitter Feed !
https://twitter.com/Linda_Pizzuti
And we all believe todos we read on the internets...!
Yup...
listed right after "convener". I'm sure that's not written in order of importance....
Why are you following Henry's wife on twitter?
If she has nothing to say doesn't that just make you a stalker?
henry is too busy ...
... dumping that horrible ad-laden junk mail on all of our front steps (or lawns or hedges or wherever the lunatic decides to throw it each week). I think he's on a personal mission to piss off every renter/owner in MA ...
Every renter/owner?
So the homeless are the only ones who aren't upset?
They throw them...
...AT the homeless.
Except one thing
They run the Globe off the same presses, and they are having the same issues.
The difference between the Globe issue and the Herald issue is that the Globe can shoot themselves in the foot as much as they want, but they are being paid by the Herald to produce their paper. The Herald might have a cause for action, which could end up with the tabloid being the only paper left in the city when the suit is over.
So...
I've noticed that the focus on saving money on operations seems to be a thing in corporate America these days. I kind of get the impusle but it sure seems like the resulting crappy product/service levels don't really result in better profitability. Saving your way to profits doesn't actually seem to work in the long run. Let's innovate our way to bankruptcy!
It can be done
The Boston Phoenix owned MassWeb and Phoenix Delivery and printed and or delivered not only The Boston Phoenix, Worcester Phoenix, Portland Phoenix, Bay Windows and The South End News, The Hartford Pilot, Bay State Banner, and several other papers and publications.
I can count on one hand the number of times we experienced a late print or missed delivery.
Well they printed ads for
Well they printed ads for porn and call girls if it's one thing the smut industry gets right it is home distribution. Seriously they are logistics masters similar to drug dealers. Amazon and Walmart should hire them as consultants like FEMA does with Waffle House.
That's where things could be headed
The Herald could walk from their contract with the Globe and have someone else publish the print edition. Surely the Lowell Sun, Eagle Tribune, Union Leader, Patriot Ledger, or even the Telegram and Gazette have spare capacity that they'd love to fill.
I'm sure the Globe won't miss the revenue. They're flush with cash, after all.
Once a week for the past three weeks
I bought the Herald from a box in the street and three times in got the day before' paper. Next time the door opens I'm taking the whole stack of papers.
2 weeks ago my Sunday NYT had nothing but the ads, Styles,
and a note apologizing for not having the rest of the paper. I assume that also comes from the Taunton plant. The penalty for this theft of service is nothing.
No excuses please
This is the subject that should keep JH awake at night.
And now the Globe are having
And now the Globe are having delivery issues with their own paper today.
This is the message I got from the BostonGlobe.com homepage...
"Dear readers, You may have experienced delays with the delivery of the morning paper. These delays are the result of a transition to our new printing facility in Taunton. We apologize, and we assure you that we are working diligently to resolve these issues."
I am still waiting for my Sunday paper as of 11:30AM...
