2. Lights and lighting traditions are common in cultures that have long nights approaching the Solstice. Drive away the darkness!

You don't live in the area so I don't fault you for not knowing but this display has elements that are there year 'round. It's only lit up during the holiday season but the framework for a lot of it are a permanent part of the yard.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Vietnam doesn't need to "drive away the darkness" near the solstice as other cultures more distant from the equator do.

I imagine she meant cultures like those in the Northern US where there are long nights in the winter, just because someone isnt white doesn't mean they aren't culturally part of the US or the part of the US where they live. And in this part of the US where its dark before most people leave work we do need help driving away the darkness.

The proprietor of this display LIVES IN BOSTON, and BOSTON has long nights.
But I'm sure you are hiding from Krampus right now, as nobody ever gets to be an American.
It's the New Normal

If you notice, the week before Christmas, in stores almost all Christmas items are removed or shoved to a single undignified "clearance" table and are replaced by Valentine's Day merchandise. This has been going on for some time now. It's the new normal where the actual holidays themselves are secondary to this one, big, ongoing "season".
Sad commentary on society
when holidays are rushed through so we can prepare for the next one. Even the reports about Black Friday on WBZ Radio earlier had a distinct "Glad Thanksgiving is over. Time now to focus on shopping for unneeded and cheaply made junk" tone to them.
Unfortunate that some people are so insecure that they let themselves be brainwashed into accepting that turning on

Turning on Christmas lights on Thanksgiving night isn't a new norm in any way that I can remember - it is an old tradition going back at least half a century! Except in whatever place you live that must not be in America. Many families get their trees up and decorate at Thanksgiving when everybody is around, and have done so for generations.
Some people
keep their Christmas decorations up and lights on until well after New Years, as well, too.

You took a break from shaking your fist at traffic to ridicule this man for turning on his Christmas lights on Thanksgiving night? The cold weather must be making you even more miserable than your normal self.
House needs ipecac
I can never decide how I feel about this display. On one hand I love the holiday lights but on the other it seems like the house's basement threw up Christmas decorations.

I love this display and it sounds like the neighbors have never complained... the level of detail they go into is incredible.

This display...
makes me so happy. Is it professional? No. Does it make sense? No. Is it filled with boundless enthusiasm? Absolutely! I hate the rushing of the holidays as much as anyone else but this display isn't about selling anything. It's a literal bright spot in an increasingly dark and angry world. I missed it the year they didn't light it. I was so pleased to see it lit again last year that I left them a gift card in their mailbox last year to say thank you.
