Jon Keller: Stop being such selfish pigs
By adamg on Wed, 11/19/2008 - 10:36am
Sadly, I think Keller was dead serious this morning on WBZ when he accused people who plan to cut back their Christmas shopping this year of being "selfish" because they are helping to ruin the economy. Good to know he still has a secure job.

Keller needs help
The activity of consumers IS the economy, and consumer activity is relatively correlated to supply and demand (they have money, they buy things, and the inverse)
If this genius wants to blame someone, he might want to start with the Federal Reserve, who through its manipulation of interest rates and printing presses, supplied cash to banks (and other institutions, TBD) in a nearly costless manner, causing a liquidity surge and rampant credit abuses, which have since contracted due to the unsustainable environment these actions generated.
But yeah, blame the unemployed and broke.
If the economy of America depends on "Christmas" then there are much more fundamental problems at hand. I guess that's too much for a genius like Keller on WBZ. Obviously he needs help - I recommend an education.
Keller has been koo koo for
Keller has been koo koo for cocoa puffs ever since Obama won.
Takes One to Know One!
Gee, did it ever occur to Mr.Porky Privilege that you can't spend what you don't have?
Or that we are in this mess because people either spent, had to spend, or thought they should spend what they didn't have?
Sorry, but "spend what you don't have or you are selfish" just screams FAIL! Let them eat fruitcake, eh Jon?
He did make an exception ...
For people who are out of work, I'll grant him that.
Yes, and the peasants will
Yes, and the peasants will be thankful for his granting them a pardon.
And us lucky ones?
Do we get dispensation to skip the craptastic potlatch for the kiddies if we simply buy several cases of tuna for the food pantry ?
Paying off all non-mortgage debt and banking a nest egg against one or the other of us joining Unemployed Nation are not allowed I suppose.
Exactly, people having been
Exactly, people have been spending way too much for way too long. Its kind of crazy that the entire retail empire is built on me gorging myself in the christmas aisles once a year. Ive gotten to the point where I dont even want to play anymore, I dont want my relatives spending money they dont have on things I probaly dont need. My family has always been pretty well centered around christmas, and for that I am thankful, but there is still alot of waste.
Christmas, even in a secularized form, is really meant to be a time of reflection and spending time with your family, loved ones, and friends. Even if you strip the religion off of it, thats what the core of the holiday is supposed to be. Instead we are now being told that we HAVE to spend lots of money or somehow its our fault that the economy is faltering. Im sorry, Im not playing this game, its not my fault that these businesses have business plans that depend on 70 percent of their profits for a one month period...
Listen for yourself
Keller as MP3 file.
I never watch Keller, except in the primetime promo commercials
I find it so hard to even sit through his promos during the evening - how the heck does he keep his job?
His problem
He is using a false set of pretenses to draw incorrect conclusions. This "Xmas shopping is down" news comes from who? Projections (from the same economic indicators that couldn't predict that we'd be in a recession right now? No thanks) and the shops that want us to boost them up as early as October with "Christmas" sales.
Now is not the time to be out wasting your last dollar on consumer crap and most of the places that you're going to buy your gifts this season don't need to be propped up and could probably even use being taken down a peg or two. We flew too close to the sun, Icarus. It's time to be more prudent with our bank books while the cost of all these things returns to a more reasonable level given the current economic climate. Shoving another shim under the 300 lb gorilla in the room isn't going to help *anyone*.
I have been tired of this
I have been tired of this bloviating jackass for years. I have an idea, why not lay off Keller and give him a blogspot blog as part of his severance package. We can all peer into his misery on a daily basis while he whines about how hard it is to survive in "Obama's America" and enjoy a bit of the schadenfreude.
Better yet ...
Cage match with Jim Braude. It would likely be the most poorly attended wresting event in history, even if it was to the death.
Either that, or a closed course Morrisey Blvd. game of wrong-way chicken!
Some of us WOULD pay...
... to see Jim Braude out-Masshole Jon Keller.
Especially if it were to the death.
I could get a few friends to come along for that one.
Right on.
His son Barney (lol!) is a tool as well. Heard him on NPR and he couldn't even justify why he has the requisite experience to hold his position in MA GOP.
Home Depot says pony up, too
WBZ is not alone, but is outdone. The leader of Home Depot thinks business owners who haven't donated to Republicans in Congress should be killed:
PS. Sorry for the divergence from the topic, but it's similar!
Home Depot's gone downhill.
They're always short-staffed, the service is rather poor...and rude, and they're often short on a lot of stuff. They used to be pretty good. Something went wrong somewhere.
I've found that Lowes is infinitely better in many regards.

Au contraire
Last night, I found the staff at the West Roxbury Home Depot very helpful and courteous.
Might be because I was one of the few customers in the store, dunno, but I've never had problems there - except for this past spring, when I needed a new screen door and they didn't have any and Lowes did.
When I was wallpapering back
When I was wallpapering back in September, I went to several Home Depots and they didn't carry any in the stores, whereas Lowes had a decent selection available. It wasn't Sherwin William selection, but then again I wasn't looking for fabulous wall paper.
