humans did it that way. I can imagine the Somme in 1916, 3 million turkeys strutting about with their breasts puffed up and their tails fanned out, and then wandering off.
Actually I guess that would only be likely if there were a few million female turkeys around. As I understand it, that's a courtship display, not a dominance display, so those two are just buddies teaming up. But I still like the image of a battlefield of turkeys.

We've seen things you filthy colonials wouldn't believe. Tractor trailers on fire off the shoulder of route nine. We've watched exploded neon tubes glitter in the dark near Coolidge Corner. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain....
