my friends and i couldn't wait for TV38 to run 'the deer hunter' every year, it was a big deal with all the swearing and blood!!! we spent days staging make believe schoolyard Russian roulette scenes. di-di-mau!!
The best part of 38
was "Ask the Manager" with Hersey and Dan Berkery.
It was hilarious.
Loved
watching ATM!
Best Part
There was always a letter asking why they didn't show more Three Stooges.

Sigh....
I remember when I first heard 38 had been sold, grieving the impending loss of ATM.
tv38
I actually thought the three stooges lived at the tv38 studios, along with willie whistle.

While it was very short-lived, I loved "We Don't Knock".
Which station did that lame spoof
of Hersey & The Movie Loft featuring "Dana Hearsay" and "The Movie Pit"? It had some nerdy-looking guy in front of a flaming grille. Remember, channel 38 became more than a local phenomenon since it was the flagship station of Storer Cable. I had friends in CT who were big Dana Hersey fans.
What a magnificent and
What a magnificent and unmistakable voice! Every once in a while I've heard him just pop up on the radio and it is always fantastic. But Willie Whistle or whatever was before my time; I was brought up on the real Bozo (so to speak) in Chicago.
The Movie Loft was one of my favorite things on Boston TV back in the 70s and 80s, along with Frank Avruch doing his thing (the "Great" something or other) on Saturday Night on Channel 5. I'm sure I still have a VCR recording or two somewhere from both the FA era and the Movie Loft.
I also remember going to a showing of Some Like It Hot at the Opera House where they wheeled out FA to introduce the movie. Hurrah for Boston's own Robert Osborne!

Bozo
Since you've apparently been around the area for a while, you may already know this, but for the uninformed...
While Bozo as a concept originated in Chicago, Bozo around these parts (and, I believe, in national syndication packages later) WAS Frank Avruch.
