Citizen complaint of the day: The wrong-way driver who shops ten times a week at 7-Eleven

Ardale Street is a one-way street in Roslindale that ends at Centre Street by a 7-Eleven. One fed-up resident files a complaint:

Vehicles are constantly driving up our one way street. Drivers turn left out of 7-11 parking lot and go the wrong way even if they know they're doing it. I just saw someone who lives on the street do it. She does it like 10 times a week. I don't know what to do about this. There are already one-way/do not enter signs.

Why wouldn't the 7-11 people just go down Knoll Street?

As far as the neighbor goes, that's just anti-social behavior right there.

You made absolutely opposite comments when it comes to people demanding ownership of public property.

The anti-social neighbor is the one who complained, sitting by his window watching his neighbors drive by.

The neighbors going the wrong way are presumably taking care to not steal anybody else's right of way while they take the shortcut home.

Perhaps he can't stand dealing with the woman driving at him while he's driving down the street.

You do presume a lot, I must say.

I used to live right around the corner from there. The streets are too narrow for two-way traffic and going up to Knoll (which is only about 10 car-lengths away) is not asking too much at all.

I was going to say that maybe they could add more signs so that it's clear to people leaving the 7-11 that they can't turn left. Alas, the corner is awash in signs, as seen on streetview.

Moving violation tickets do wonders in changing behavior.

It isn't fair to expect old people to change their ways. Some would say that they are territorial and selfish about ignoring the one-way, but its just tradition that makes Boston the way Boston is, right?

It's not old people who do it on purpose, it's young people who live near the end of the street & can't be bothered to go around the block.

Have you observed a representative sample of people doing this, and kept track of their age? Or are you stereotyping baselessly?

Is it legal to go the wrongway down a oneway as long as the car is in Reverse? If not, then it should be.

Driving like a self entitled turd is a Boston tradition. Much like Boston police not enforcing traffic laws for white people. If this yuppie doesn't like the way we have always done things they should go back to Europe.

Much like Boston police not enforcing traffic laws for white people.

And when the Black Boston Police officers let all the white people go without enforcing traffic laws, do they do a little shuffle jive dance to entertain them too? When the Asian and Latino police officers let white people go without enforcing traffic laws do they smile wide and bow incessantly, nodding their heads in a quick fashion? Do Pacific Islanders give the hang loose sign when the see white people rolling through stop signs? Perhaps Native American officers sit on their horses and shed a tear when a white person passes on the right, but still do nothing about it. I bet the dot Indians say "Thank you come again!" when white people speed through school zones.

Maybe if all those minority officers would ticket white people then we could get some money rolling in and some safety happening. They do represent 40 percent of the department.

Oh and that 7-11 lot is a late night Uber spot for me, waiting for hospital shifts and bar rides. The only thing I ever see is really drunk Irish men buying scratchers. Barely any drive. I am not disputing traffic problems during the day, but I can see why not too many people would care. I don't and I am involved directly. (I have never broken a traffic law there myself).

OK, I live on this block (I'm not the complainant) and have children. I have seen plenty of wrong-way driving on this block and am concerned for the safety of my kids and others', as this is a neighborhood where we like to let our kids have some freedom. My kids go to the 7-11 to pick up ice cream, milk, etc.

Now, has my (true, accurate) anecdotal evidence convinced you that this is a problem? Is that all it takes? I mean, I'm glad you don't break the law like that, but others do, and it creates needless risk for people in the neighborhood.

Uline sells them.

Put them down so that wrong way = shredded tires

Won't take long to solve the problem.

I'm the complainant, I live on the block, I also have kids who frequent the 7-11. I don't want someone, my kids or someone else's, or someone walking their dog, or the elderly woman who took 5 minutes to walk across Ardale the other day, or ANYONE to get hit by a car cruising the wrong way.

It's just a matter of time before someone gets hit. What they should do is get rid of the Ardale St entrance into the parking lot; I bet that would fix it.
