Police: Man takes his dog on a Mission Hill carjacking jaunt

Boston Police report arresting a man they say carjacked a car at a Huntington Avenue gas station, crashed the car, then tried to use a credit card he found in the car to buy some booze early yesterday evening.

Police say that shortly before 5:45 p.m., a woman was filling her car's tires with air at the Citgo station on Huntington Avenue at South Huntington when Larry Hart, 39, got into the car - while holding "a small, tan dog."

The victim immediately yelled at the suspect and ran back to the driver’s side door at which time she grabbed his left arm in an attempt to remove him from the vehicle. The two struggled briefly before the suspect suddenly drove off, causing the victim to fall to the ground as he fled. The victim received minor scrapes as a result of her fall and denied the need for medical attention. A short time later, police began to receive calls indicating that the suspect had crashed into several other vehicles while fleeing outbound on the Riverway. A short time later, officers located the victim's car, damaged and abandoned in the area of 99 Bynner Street in Jamaica Plain. The suspect was last seen by witnesses fleeing the area on foot with his unidentified canine accomplice running close behind him. Additional responding officers and a BPD K-9 Unit searched the area for the suspect to no avail.

Hart, police said, could not leave well enough alone. After being alerted somebody was using the woman's credit cards in stores along Huntington Avenue, they caught up with Hart at ODB Liquors in Brigham Circle.

He was arrested on charges of carjacking, robbery, fraudulent use of a credit card and receiving stolen property, police say.

Police add the dog was unhurt in the crash and that Hart at least left his pet at home when he went out with the credit cards.

Innocent, etc.

It does bring me some comfort that they were close to the MSPCA in case something did happen to the dog. I wonder if he'll be available for rescue once this scumbag gets sentenced.

I'm glad the pup and other vehicles that were hit on the Riverway are all OK.
That's a very dangerous road where there have been multiple head on collisions resulting in death.

Also - I've always wondered what type of clientele would shop at a place called ODB liquors. I'll probably continue to steer clear of that place.

I'm not sure what you mean by your comment about the liquor store? I live in the area and a variety of clientele shop there - it's clean, nice employees and has a decent selection for a smaller place.

Agree with you about the Riverway though.

You must not be familiar with what this acronym stands for...?

What is the deal with that?

Why aren't you down with ODB? I bet if Calumet was still there you'd have something to say about that place as well. Maybe go in and buy something and get to know them.

Just wow. (This leaves my mind spinning.)

my car engine running, while I'm either pumping petrol or putting air into my tires, I actually make myself go through the thought process: "10 seconds of time to stop and start the car VS the untold time and expenses loss because I made it easy for someone to car jack me."

It kind of makes me always choose to turn off the car and take the keys. lol. I will admit though that it's especially challenging when a song I like is on the radio but this thought process always works for me.

I just push a button. The "key" is always buried in my pocket. If I'm out of the car, nobody can start it.

I hope when you get home, you put the keys far away from the front door, or in a metal container. Somebody can buy "extenders" that dramatically increase the range of those systems, letting that person get in your car and drive away.

Almost seems as if this guy wanted to go to jail, or else forgot what decade he's living in with cameras everywhere.
