Driver turns Brookline taco place into a drive-thru
By adamg on Sat, 02/17/2018 - 11:12am
KMV surveyed the damage at Anna's Taqueria on Harvard Street after somebody drove into it early this morning. No injuries, at least, he reports.

I'm sure the driver must've been confused by the signage
These incidents keep happening and yet our traffic engineers won't create clear and proper signage to prevent motorists from crashing into things.
If you are a building
... cars are going to hit you if you don't get out of the way.
Was the building wearing high viz paint? What was it doing out so late at night?
Victim blaming
This is the attitude that allows our quaint society of drunks and disinteresteds continue to mow down innocents and walk away on personal recognizance, scot-free.
Shame on you and your calls for Hi-Viz! The building likely supports more than one family financially.
The building really needs ...
... to get off her smart phone and look up. She wasn’t even in the crosswalk.
No helmet
The building wasn't wearing a helmet, either!
Not to mention
That if buildings were registered and insured and paid taxes like other road users, cars wouldn't hit them so much
It's also up to drivers to be more responsible and pay attention
It's also up to drivers to be more responsible and alert, and to pay better attention to what's going on around them. One can't blame the fact that motorists crash into things entirely on our traffic engineers.
Ok, you're equating this with
Ok, you're equating this with Storrowing.
But if you think about this for just a second, it's clear that the causes are different. One is someone losing control of a vehicle and driving somewhere no vehicle is ever supposed to go. And the other is driving on what looks like any other major roadway, but only certain types of vehicles can fit, meaning it *is* the traffic engineer's job to put up signage that gets the message across. And as people have posted multiple times in this forum, some entrances to Storrow have signage that is very easy to miss, and is only posted *after* the last chance a driver had to go a different way.
WHOOSH!
WHOOSH!
What's to get here? We are equating this with other situations where drivers get magically excused for their shitty driving (because driving is sacred) despite killing people and damaging property.
I'd be interested in seeing who this guy is...
I had a strange interaction with a gentleman at this Anna's the other day. He was making a scene, mocking one of the cooks, something about calling a quesadilla a "grilled burrito" and how they didn't speak English (they do, he was making her uncomfortable) and then he walked up to me and asked me if I spoke English, noting that he'd heard me order in Spanish (I'm not Latino). I said, "of course I speak English, is there anything I can do for you" and he began acting squirrely and ducked away.
I mean, I hope it's unrelated, but it makes me wonder.
I'm very happy to hear that there were no injuries
The driver must have been wearing a helmet. Too bad Anna's probably wasn't, hence the damage.
A tall blond guy?
Was he a tall thin blond guy in his early 20s? I've seen him in Coolidge Corner a couple of times doing stream of consciousness rants. Mental illness + racism is a hell of a combination.
The chance of something like
The chance of something like this is why they have two Anna’s locations in Coolidge Corner.
Well its Sunday so they
Well its Sunday so they probably won't get a ticket, police are kind hard to rustle up in greater Boston in Sunday's for vehicular violations. It's a free for all. I got hit by a drunk driver speeding in reverse crossing 3 lanes of traffic from a bar parting lot in Brighton. Called police, an hour later the witness said they had to go, police never showed.
Brookline
You're right. There's little chance that Boston Police will show up to investigate a crime in Brookline.
To be fair to the anon
She did refer to "greater Boston" police.
On the other hand, like 'Fish says, they also think it is Sunday.
It's Sunday?
Pretty sure it's Saturday...just sayin'.
Maybe he saw a turkey outside it
and thought it was Larry?
Maybe
it was the guy who hit Larry, on an anti-immigrant rampage. Turkeys are from Mexico, you know.
No, I didn't know
I thought they were from Turkey.
(But I don't recall seeing turkey burritos on Anna's menu.)
Mexican turkeys are a wee bit
Mexican turkeys are a wee bit different than our local breed of radical nativist bagel connoisseurs
He's just dressed up
for the Day of the Dead.
Actually the Ocellated Turkey, a wondrous creature, is a different species than our everyday/Thanksgiving turkey, which was domesticated in Mexico by the Mayans, and went forth from there to conquer the world. All domesticated turkeys are of Mexican descent.
Admittedly I was engaging in a little ethnic stereotyping. The Eastern Wild Turkey, of which Larry was no doubt an example, is the same species as the domesticated turkey, but a different subspecies, which has probably been here a long time. So perhaps it was Larry who was raging against the Mexican immigrants, who have come in and taken the jobs of honest American turkeys. It's not a job that you'd think most turkeys would want, but that doesn't mean it should go to foreigners.
Adam why did you change you
Adam why did you change you twitter handle photo from what it use to be a while ago?
There was an imposter
Who was using my avatar and something very similar to my background image, so I changed both while asking Twitter to block the imposter and give me one of those blue verification checkmarks. Matt Frank, who posts here from time to time, was kind enough to let me use his really cool photo of the Tobin Bridge.
Twitter rejected me on both counts (said the guy was not pretending to be me, even though, well, he was), but eventually did block the guy after lots of local users filed complaints (it's good to have friends). I haven't switched back because, well, inertia, I guess, but it really is a cool photo.
How will the employees get
How will the employees get paid until restaurant reopens?
Open same-day
Walked by there during dinner - was already reopen with the hole boarded up.
The owner's losses may be
The owner's losses may be covered by business interruption or loss of income insurance. If they have a covered loss, depending on their coverage terms and preference, they could pay some staff.
But in fast casual situation, it will depend on how long they need for repairs and how much they want to retain the same staff.
Driver offers explanation

An unidentifed vehicle
Okay.
Pardon my skepticism, but that sounds like the sleep deprived driver version of the classic "a black guy shot my wife" defense.
Will be interesting if any businesses in the area have cameras that were recording to identify this "mystery vehicle".
