The Dorchester Reporter reports that Doug Bennett got himself a $300 fine from Inspectional Services - and the ire of some Dorchester community groups who are tired of seeing his stickers all over the place.

I love this from the Cape Cod Today website:
Just when you thought it was safe to drive around our rotaries, the ubiquitous Doug Bennett, former Nantucket Selectman, Nantucket County Commissioner and GOP candidate for State Senate, has hung out his political shingle again.
This time in Boston. And Beantown may never be the same.
Fortunately for Doug, the pool of potential councilors is deep but the qualifications limited.
What election?

When is the election anyhow? I've had phone calls & flyers taped to my door from Doug Bennett & I'm pretty sure there isn't an election anytime soon.
The other signs that are annoying are those Dedham Singles ones - they put them all around the Holy Name rotary on 9/11, in between the flags. Really annoying - can they be fined for putting those up too?
It's the 2009 election

Now how about the "JOBS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!" posters that litter JP?
C'mon guys! All you need to do is pretend to be a trust-fund brat and show up for the interview- and slap whoever with a violation.

No story on all the union hacks who put their stickers, not to mention signs, all over public property?
Why no fine for them?

One thing I learned in actually talking to some of those Dorchester community activist types a few months back is that one thing that really, really drives them nuts is people putting up stickers where they don't belong - not just candidates but aspiring major hip-hop recording stars (what do they call those things? Beats?) and everybody else. So I'm betting they just got particularly steamed at this latest round of neighborhood defilement, and in this case, they could actually prove where they came from (since the things show up at just the same time as Doug does; same thing happened here in Roslindale).
Bennett vandalizes historic parks too

I found Bennett stickers on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall and passed photos of those on to the Graffiti NABBers group.
How can you run for office in the Back Bay and not be aware that there's a war on graffiti going on here?
This is another neighborhood where litter and graffiti marketing will backfire on you. Bennett really knows how to turn voters against him.
His "ties" to Boston

Doug left a pamphlet at my house. In it he states that,
"Born on February 20, 1976, Doug Bennett’s ties to Massachusetts are deep. His grandfather Larry Gardner and his great uncle were orphaned in Boston at the Massachusetts State House at the ages of 3 and 5 respectively in 1920 and his mother Kathy Lee was born just outside of Boston in Winchester."
Sorry to hear that your grandfather and great-uncle were orphaned in Boston, but does that really help qualify you to be at City Councillor? Yeesh.
Orphaned at the State House?

I got the same pamphlet & wondered about that - were his great-grandparents killed at the State House? That's the only way I can see that his grandfather & great-uncle were orphaned there. I'd like to hear the rest of that story.
Nonsense ISD bullshit

Unless ISD can prove Bennett is posting the stickers himself, fining him is bullshit.
There are plenty of stray stickers around Boston.

www.universalhub.com/2009-elections.html has a link to Bennett's Web site, and those of other candidates. Which you should know, since I've linked to it in other discussions in which you've participated.

This past Tuesday I was in my driveway getting the kids ready to go when I noticed a man going the wrong way up South St on a red motorscooter. I gave him a look, as if to say "wrong way" and he took that as an opening to pull over and introduce himself. "I'm Doug Bennett and I'm running for City Council" while pulling a pamphlet from his open bag. "Umm.. yeah well you're also going the wrong way on a one way street" motioning toward the steady flow of traffic. His face turned from "make the sale" to "why I never!" and he was off, looking a little like Mr.Bean as carried on the wrong way, rolling up onto the sidewalk to win votes one handshake at a time.
For the record he hates firefighters, police and school kids and is all about building halfway houses and strip clubs with your tax dollars...
